The NPD numbers are in and according to the marketing research firm, the Xbox 360 lead hardware sales in June, the sixth month in a row Microsoft's console has topped the charts. In June, Microsoft's console sold 507,000 units. Microsoft credits another month of strong sales to multiplatform games like LA Noire and Duke Nukem Forever, the number 1 and 2 selling games.
The obvious question here is, what about the PlayStation 3? Sony has not released their numbers from the NPD yet. We have reached out to Sony and are waiting for their reply. We will of course update you when we hear more. And remember, just because the Xbox 360 sold more consoles, doesn't mean the PS3 didn't do well. They're like a second winner!
Console sales in general are down 9% from last year, ranking in at $469.5 million dollars.
Fess up, did you buy a console last month?

My question about this is, out of those sales, how many of those are from buyers replacing their previous burnt out systems? Take those out of the numbers, and those sales figures wont be as great as what they are presenting them to be. At this point in time, majority of the people who want any of the systems already have them. So of course most would slow down/drop. Or is it that the Xbox sales were really that bad to begin with? (dont answer that, it is sarcasm to those who cant see it)

I won an Xbox from g4 and bought a ps3 from Amazon for $200 in the gold box. I didn't really need a third Xbox, but I am glad to be out from under my launch console that as gone to Texas 6 times. How much of that growth is from people who are sick of sending their consoles for repair?

Ya guys we all know the PS3 outsells the XBOX worldwide but these are the America numbers because most of us live in AMERICA.
Anyway I'm not surprised I think the PS3 is still recovering from the PSN hack people are still wary about getting a PS3. My prediction is still that come the holiday season the PS3 will once again pick up steam and put that whole fiasco behind them with the great games coming out this year as exclusives.
@Mjimid
Because we all care about this if you don't why are u here? P.S. the xbox is selling better so how can you say they are failing yet?
dz99ls
yes everyone knows the PS3 is outselling the 360 worldwide but to xbots that doesnt mean anything at all
lucidity
Amazing, the oldest console has yet to peak, meanwhile the one of the younger consoles has already shown their replacement.
Worldwide the first half of 2011 has the following year over year results
Wii down 34.5%
PS3 down 10.3%
360 up 7.3%

i dont understand why people cant get both xbox360 and ps3? are they that poor so they start a fanboy war becuase they cant afford the other console?
MJimiD
Why do people post the most irrelevant crap as news? What the hell do the sales of XBox 360 have to do with you, me, or the games we play? I mean, are you trying to shape people's perceptions by pointing out how popular 'x' product is? You're failing.

The only console I've yet to buy is the 3DS and that's because I'm waiting for some fort of 3DS Lite to come out and then I will play Ocarina of Time until my eyes bleed.
Liquid Swords
That's a lie. The PS3 has outsold the Xbox all year.
