LA Noire

Hot off the entirely imaginary presses comes the NPD sales charts for video games in the month of June. The winner, and still champion, Rockstar's LA Noire. It was the top cross-platform game in June, outselling much-waited-for shooter Duke Nukem Forever and Sony's InFamous 2, although it bears mentioning that InFamous 2 is console-specific to the PS3 where Duke Nukem Forever and LA Noire are multi-plat releases.

Further down the charts, we find perennial favorite, Call of Duty: Black Ops. BlOps is number six on the list. For Nintendo heads, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D is solidly at number 5 on the charts, in spite of being a port of a game that was originally released in 1998.

While the NPD Group doesn't give exact sales numbers, the order of game sales is as follows:

  1. L.A. Noire (360, PS3)
  2. Duke Nukem Forever (360, PS3, PC)
  3. Infamous 2 (PS3)
  4. Lego Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game (Wii, 360, NDS, PS3, 3DS, PSP, PC)
  5. Legend of Zelda:  Ocarina of Time 3D
  6. Call of Duty: Black Ops (360, PS3, Wii, NDS, PC)
  7. NBA 2K11 (360, PS3, Wii, PS2, PSP, PC)
  8. Mortal Kombat 2011 (PS3, 360)
  9. Cars 2 (NDS, Wii, 360, PS3, PC)
  10. Just Dance 2 (Wii)

Industry estimates hover around 300,000 to 320,000 for Duke Nukem Forever, with LA Noire believed to have sold around 419,000 to 473,000 but those numbers are a bit speculative; take them with a grain of salt.

Overall, sales of video game software were down 12 percent from the previous year.

It's got to be disappointing that Duke Nukem Forever didn't top the sales charts, although number two is pretty good as well. Also: I had predicted that Alice: Madness Returns would be a very successful title, but it's not even on the top ten of sales, proving, once again, that I shouldn't predict things. Also: Shadows of the Damned, a generally well-recieved game, didn't crack the top ten either.

Hmm... An inventive, creative, intellectually mature title beat out an utter piece of crap. How weird.

I have both Shadows of the Damned and Alice: Madness Returns. Over all, not really good games, i got Alice for 15 new from Gamestop with coupons, so thats the price it is worth from me, but im glad it come with the original because thats more fun then the second. Now, Shadows of the damned, is fun, a decent shooter, but, had expect it to be more scary coming from Akira and Shinji 2 of the best well known survival horror creators, but it wasn't is was kind of disappointing in the horror franchise.
this guy steven johnson is something else, he needs to get off G4 and go somewhere else. It seems like it has to be his was or he complains about it.
Duke Nukem is all rightish, but LA Noire is WAY better, by far :D

Is this author really disappointed that Duke Nukem didn't top the charts? The game is awful. Thankfully I din't buy the game but rather I played it at a friend's house. All the official reviews are spot on. The game is crap coated with a crap filling piece of crap.

Frankly I'm glad the NPD had some sense to stop. The numbers only matter from a business standpoint. The internet in general wasn't wise enough to report the data in a meaningful way since it is after all just US sales. Plus it fueled flamewars which some people tire of. Not me though, it's kinda entertaining to bash the kids who claim to know more than I do. Nobody cares if you own a 360, I've been gaming for 20+ years so you're not gonna win.

Damn, I wish npd still gave out the numbers. I'd like to see how much the games sold and not guess.

Sucks that they do not post actual numbers or hardware numbers anymore. I hope someone else comes by and picks up the slack for NDP.

I wanted to see how many infamous 2 sold. . . .my prediction: 175,000 so there could be an infamous 3 if sucker punch wants to lose more money. My suggestion is they go ahead and make a more interesting game

I'm not really surprised Alice or Shadows of the Damned aren't getting any promotion really from EA. Also NBA 2k11 is still going strong which is nice to see.

Well that confirms what we've all known. PS3 has a top seller. There's a 3DS game. Wii too. 360? 360? Nope, not there. And Noire sold more on PS3 due to the special content. I'm double excited to see CoD getting pushed down.

Now we wait for the fankids to shovel their latest BS excuses.

As for Duke, it is just another shooter. Noire is doing something different so I'd expect that to nab a few more sales.

LA Noire was the best game I've played in awhile. I wish a Sherlock Holmes case would be better than the SEGA CD Version in years past. Only a few games make me think RPG, Shooter and Detective. All have the the things I look for well thoughot story, and characters to whom they concerned me. Roy I would of shot myself if he betrayed me.

I agree. Alice and Shadows are two great games. They were day one purchases for me.

Alice and Shadows definitely deserved better. Alice was a day 1 purchase. Today I just finished Shadows, and loved it. If I had an extra $60 it would have been bought.

If anyone is surprised it should be that DNK is even in the top ten. Those are all nostalgia purchases because the games is one of the worst reviewed recently, and half the news organizations in america are reporting how terrible it is content wise. And for once I support them because parents don't pay attention to the games their kids play and that one parents definately need to be warned about. Don't need some parent finding their kid playing that and then suing ther arse off of developers, and giving more fuel to the flames against video games.

Repost from XBox 360 as top-seller: Why do people post the most irrelevant crap as news? What the hell do the sales have to do with you, me, or the games we play? I mean, are you trying to shape people's perceptions by pointing out how popular 'x' product is? You're failing.
