Modern Warfare 3 Elite

Today, Call of Duty goes social. The beta test for Activision's Call of Duty Elite network has officially begun, with the first wave of invites have either already been sent out, or are speeding their way to a lucky few at some point today.

Activision community guy Dan Amrich, who you may know on Twitter as @OneOfSwords, has posted a FAQ on his personal website running through the basic how's and why's of the beta. He warns that the initial group of invitees is very small, but that the number going out will grow over time.

Call of Duty Elite is the work of Beachhead Studios, which has built a social network around the popular first-person shooter's multiplayer mode. In-depth stat tracking and community features are what it's all about, with both free and as-yet-undetailed subscription options avaiable. The beta will link up with Call of Duty: Black Ops and offer a limited featureset; the full version of Elite will launch this fall alongside Modern Warfare 3.

Who would be stupid enough to pay for this? Well, if you're stupid enough to pay to play games online then I guess you'd be stupid enough to pay for this too.

Considering that Battlefield 3 will have kind same service for free, I agree that its not going to be worth 9 bucks. A better game and a service that is free like it should be beats out paying any day.

I signed up for the beta like a month or 2 ago. So I guess I can expect mine at some point today. Also, I'm going to assume that the final version of Elite will not be compatible with Black OPS and only MW3.
