Call of Duty: Black Ops Multiplayer Reveal Hands-On

Here's a news flash that isn't really news at all: publishers handle the pricing for DLC releases. Call of Duty: Black Ops multiplayer lead Dan Bunting said as much about Treyarch's own downloadable map packs in a new interview with Gamasutra.

"You know, we're on the development side, so we don't really have much to do with the business aspect of it, but we just strive to give players the most value that we can possibly give," he said. No surprises there. Bunting's got a point too, with regards to value. Most of the people buying these map packs will put 10 or more hours in, between the multiplayer and zombie maps. Not bad for $15 / 1200 MS Points.

What you SHOULD be interested in is the three-page interview that goes with the above quote. The price vs. value talk is limited to that one reply, but there's a wealth of information for those who are curious about the studio's process when it comes to building content and understanding what it is that we players want.

For black ops 2 zombies you should have a machine that combine the to guns you have to make a new weapon for example AK 47 and AK 74u to make AKA 121, AA12 and striker to make Striker12 and it should cost the same as the pack a pouch

Either way, those prices have always been BS. Multiplayer DLC should be free anyways.

A fanbase of lackwits and morons. I mean really, this game hasn't changed since the first one and the price keeps going up? What the hell? Are people seriously content playing the same old crap over and over while ignoring original ideas in other games? You can only reskin an FPS so many times before someone realizes you're reusing material.

I might have hundreds of games and tons of consoles but can proudly say CoD is not in there. Wait, I may have received a freebie years ago with a PC video card but never played the game.

This is probably a silly question....but...

Couldn't Activision or Microsoft show us gamers a little love and give us one map pack for free? We pay Microsoft's silly $60 LIVE fee, we've already payed $60 to Activision, plus $15-$30 for another one or two map packs, this isn't being ridiculous to ask. They've already made their money back for Black Ops, it wouldn't kill them spread some good cheer.

I recently bought Black Ops again, but I'm not spending another $50 for the DLC, so I'm returning it. After playing a couple matches, I fully remember why I got rid of it in the first place.

I like how all of the comments are about people whining about prices when no one here is actually doing so. I just got chewed up by xbox people on tym because I was slightly annoyed that I have to pay $20 for 4 characters and they only have to pay $15. "You got kratos for free". Well the extra $5 I'm spending is for kratos if they want to use that argument. The fact is I paid for the game like they did and they get a better deal after the fact. I'll buy dlc very rarely, and haven't paid $15 for any add on content. I'll spend that money on an actual game. Now that I think about it I have never spent more than 10 bucks on dlc. I was hoping against hope that the mw2 dlc would drop in price but apparently the content doesn't work that way. I don't like when people try to tell me my financial situation though. "if you can afford the $60 price tag you can spend the extra 5". I could, but does that mean I can't be annoyed about it? I got people where I work who complain about a 70 cent difference in the price of the product they buy. That being said people will be as petty as possible these days.

Either way, someone at a desk is doing the math, seeing how many downloads it will take to break even at X price point.

Do I think Activision is probably trying to squeeze as much money out of this DLC? Probably. Any smart business would. Dedicated fanbase=instant buy, and Call of Duty has a huge dedicated fanbase.

It's funny that we as consumers whine and complain about prices, but then go ahead and by it anyway. As the mainstream purchasing public, we have so much power over what business gets to charge for things. They want to get their money back out of their investment, they are forced to lower the price to get people in the door. But, unfortunately, in the past few decades the general public has forgotten about using our collective power to keep the ball in our court. So, it's our own fault that we don't use the options available to defeat these kind of absurd prices.

I call bull, theres a reason why IW was able to release free dlc and then have these chuckleheads come out with super expensive 1 map dlcs.

To be completely honest, this really isn't that terrible. At the end of the day, for anyone who is playing this game, which is only for persons 17 and older, 15 dollars isn't a big squeeze. I mean, if your approaching 18 years old, you really should have a job, and even me working part time for minimum wage knows 15 dollars isn't that bad. all that means is i have to skip out on this weeks Doritos budget and all is well. But if your talking about value of dlc versus content then that is another issue. As a player of basically all game types i can think of, this whole dlc thing is both very cool, and very depressing. Alot of the time, its great additives to the gaming experience, while other times unlocking items that were on the disc in the first place is pretty disappointing. Without getting too far off track though, the whole 15 dollars for 5 maps isn't bad, as pendulum pointed out you pay more for Halo maps, and thats without getting any kind of zombie mode along with them. But there are other games giving great value too, such as the 10$ vip code for battlefield bc2, giving you 7 map packs so far, and Mortal Kombat with its season pass at 15$, but giving you access to 4 new characters and a slew of classic costumes. So when it comes down to it, its hard to decide if its even worth 15 dollars to get shot by another 15th prestige with his golden camo Ak-74u because thats how he justifies the inadequacies of his life. Its hard to even justify playing that game at all.... let alone spending money on the dlc. maybe you should just spend that 15 dollars on a bottle of cologne and go live or something, go to a park, find a chick, go on a date.

Consumers control the sale price of all products. If you think it's overpriced then don't buy it.

Gaming is a luxury item that not all can afford. Just like I don't have a $200,000 sports car or a personal Learjet.

You are not entitled to play any game. Gaming is a form of entertainment that must be paid for. You don't go to an amusement park for free, or take a vacation to Hawaii for free. Game companies don't owe you anything. If you don't like how they treat you, don't buy their products.

Life sucks sometimes, and whining and crying will not make it any better. Life is also what you make of it, the majority of the time.

the problem is not the price of the DLC its how much DLC they come out with. if you have bought all the DLC for black ops then you have spent an extra 45 dollars on a game you paid 60 for originally

I really really liked the full interview! I am a social creature and the attention to that as a disabled gamer who is home a lot is something I am willing to pay for! I really like the newest map dlc I'm not sure why but I find myself laughing out loud and really having a good time! Silo really rocks! I love my xbox! I love blowing stuff up when I'm in pain and I don't mind paying!!!!

Guys it's only 15 dollars, i would understand if it was in the 30's but its not even expensive. Save the chance from groceries and other crap you might buy and soon you'll have enough money to pay for DLC content! Cheep O's :)

Though I am more of a halo fanboy, though with reach not as much right now hopefully halo 4 will be good) . Cod maps are cheaper then halo maps. And dont go how is 15 cheaper then 10. No you get 5 vs 3. Price per cod map is $3.00 and price per halo map is $3.33. And in halo you get two playlist for maps use to be one where as in cod you get four. Plus in non required DLC you get the DLC 75% of the time in cod is seems where as in halo once in a blue moon. And I am talking about reach Halo 3 you got what you paid for with reach I felt like I gave my money to Microsoft for nothing. Bungie is awesome developer but when you look at reach vs Halo 3 with there decisions it makes you sigh.
