Xbox Music Brings 11 Million Song Catalog To Your Console This Fall

Updated: 6:24PM EST

Microsoft will be launching an Xbox Music service this fall, CEO Steve Ballmer confirmed yesterday at the Microsoft Partner Conference. The new feature, which supports voice search, will presumably tie into the more Kinect-integated Xbox 360 dashboard that debuted at the company's E3 press conference last month.

The news comes from Business Insider, which reports that the content will come from an 11 million song catalog. And hey, look! Here's Microsoft's Mark Winters at CES 2011 talking about Zune Marketplace's 11 million song catalog! Coincidence? No, probably not.

Whats wrong with Zune people. Jesus Christ. If you dont have a Zune than of course you wont gaf. But as for me. My PC, Zune, Windows Phone 7 and Xbox all connect to one another. Every Zune purchase can be used on my Xbox and phone. Idk any other device that does that. Besides the iPhone and iTunes. But those are just 2 things. If you have an Xbox why not get a Zune or Windows Phone 7. Since it all interconnects withe each other.

*sigh* How many times is Microsoft going to throw good money after bad? I mean, I know they have a lot (money), but... Who honestly cares about Zune? Really. No one cares about the service or the medial devices, in fact, I've NEVER met a single person who owns a Zune mp3 player. Not one, yet I know many, many people (PC & Mac users) who own MULTIPLE iPods, Nanos, iPhones, Shuffles, etc. (myself included).

iTunes has become the iconic, default online service for music, with their players just as iconic. Apple basically owns this market.

As for Subscription Services, they can bite me. Between my cell, cable/internet, netflix and such, I don't need another, nor do I want to encourage MORE subscription-based services (especially not when it comes to gaming--$60 isn't enough money for you vampires, so you want monthly dues for multiplayer and DLC as well? Bah!).

Besides, I don't consume or buy music that way. It's still MUCH cheaper for me -in the long run- to pay as I go rather than shell out $ 15 a mo. for a service I'm not using.

Im a little worried about price but as long as its reasonable it should be nice. Especially since music ublimited on ps3 is terrible, I would rather have pandora though either way.

You guys complaininig must be too broke to afford Zune service. 14.99 a month for unlimited downloads is something I would hardly call expensive. My only wish is that itunes would adopt a monthly fee rather then having to pay for every single song that I want. Half the time it being cheaper to buy a full album I don't want over just paying for a few songs.

I'm assuming that all this will be is a fully intergrated service exclusivley for the Kinect and windows phones, because it looks just like my windows phone dashboard. But it's still the Zune marketplace.

As much as I love Microsoft adding new features, I'm getting tired of them completely revamping the dashboard almost every year. As soon as I start loving one dashboard, they change it and now I have to get used to the new one. This will be the 4th dashboard the 360 has had since launch.
