How would you like to see a fictionalized version of King of Kong shot in mockumentary style, ala The Office? That's the pitch that Seth Gordon, director of the original King of Kong, would like to see made into a film. Gordon may just have the clout to pull it off, too; his feature Horrible Bosses took the silver medal in the box office race this weekend, earning more movie than every other film of the weekend except for Transformers 3.
Gordon, speaking to The Playlist, said the following about the fictional King of Kong:
“There’s a few different avenues [the film can take]. I’ve done some work on ‘Modern Family’ and ‘The Office’ and have worked in this doc style, and so that inspired me to say, instead of doing a traditional narrative feature script, what if we did the remake in the doc style?... What doors what that open? What opportunities? What additional story could we tell? And that’s essentially the approach we took.”
I doubt a mockumentary would be any funnier than the source material, but it seems like a viable way to bring a fictional King of Kong to the screen. I can only assume that the great Bill Mitchell will play himself in the film. Or, at least, I can hope.
