Uppercut Games is a newly formed studio founded by 2K Games veterans Andrew James and Edward Orman, who until recently served as art director and lead designer, respectively, on the upcoming XCOM reboot. The mobile gaming-focused studio revealed a first look at its upcoming iOS shooter today, Epoch, which you can check out in the above trailer.
XCOM Devs' Uppercut Games Reveals Unreal-Powered iOS Shooter Epoch
Uppercut is clearly taking a cue from Mega Man here, what with the "gun-arm-equipped robot shooting other robots" setup. Not a bad place to draw your inspiration from. The game is set in a post-apocalyptic world, with players shooting scores of enemy automatons while attempting to figure out where all the people went.
Epoch is an Unreal-powered game that you control by using swipes and taps to maneuver your robot, select targets and put your war-making tools to work. There will be some kind of upgrade mechanic and the action is characterized as "arena-style combat" featuring "endless waves of robots."
Sounds like the awesome love-child of Mega Man and fellow Unreal-powered iOS game Infinity Blade. It looks pretty sweet too, based on what we see in the trailer.
The company's website lists a fourth quarter 2011 release for Epoch.
