GDC 2009: Hideo Kojima Talks 'Metal Gear Solid Touch' and E3 at Apple Store

Gamers are used to reading all manner of bizarre news. Sort of comes with the territory of loving an entertainment medium that puts an emphasis on sword-fighting and laser beam-shooting aliens. I bet this nugget still surprises you though: Hideo Kojima, creator of the Metal Gear series, confirmed on his latest Hideradio podcast that he’s working with Suda 51 to develop an original radio drama called Sdatcher.

No, not Snatcher, Kojima’s 1988 adventure game. Sdatcher. The project is inspired by the MSX2 classic, but no other story details were revealed in the podcast, according to Famitsu (via Andriasang).

Kojima will serve as planner and overall director, with Suda 51 handling the script-writing duties. Akira Yamaoka, of Grasshopper Manufacture, will compose the music and Satoshi Yoshioka, who worked on Snatcher, serves as character designer and illustrator.

Wait. Character designer and illustrator? For a radio show? What the crap is going on here?

There’s no hard release date for this radio drama yet, but it will air as part of the 300th Hideradio broadcast. The episode announcing the news is number 296.
