A few weeks ago, we learned that Robin (of Batman and... fame) would be playable in Batman: Arkham City. Along with the news came a picture of the Boy Wonder, who looked like a brooding Eminem, complete with buzzcut, surly expression and what looks like a facial tatoo. Today, courtesy of the Batman: Arkham City forums, we got another picture (in which Robin looks kinda like Eminem in a Robin outfit, complete with a hoody/cape.) as well as an idea of the concept behind this Robin.
From Arkham City senior concept artist Kan Muftic:
"We wanted to create a Robin that players would identify as a contemporary character and move away from the traditional 'Boy Wonder' image that most people know. Our vision of Robin is the one of a troubled young individual that is calm and introverted at times but very dangerous and aggressive if provoked. The shaved head is inspired by cage fighters, because we thought that Robin might be doing that in his spare time to keep him on his toes. Still, we kept all the classic trademarks of Robin’s appearance, such as the red and yellow colors of his outfit, the cape and the mask. We really hope that people will discover our Robin as one of their new favorite characters in the Batman universe. He is back and he means business."
Robin sounds pretty badass, if a little emo. Two full Robin pictures are under the cut, for you fans of Detroit Hip Hop from 2002.

Am I the only one here who hates the new Robin? I mean, yeah, the costume is okay, except for the stupid hood (what is he, a Sith jedi now?), but come on, shaved head, brooding emo personality? Not cool. Now, I'm not saying that Robin has to be all "Golly gee Batman, can I put on my green hot pants now?", but they're making Robin a little too independent. He's a sidekick. If he's going to be so independent, then just make him Nightwing. I think that a modern take on Robin would still be a sidekick to Batman, but they would be more like 2 cop partners. I don't know, I'm sure none of you agree, but it's just what I think.

In the Arkham universe how could Robin be anything but emo? It's like he's aware of the way he used to be/look.
Plus, his face in the new picture reminds me of Penguin.

just when i thought robin couldnt get/look any gayer this comes out haha

Wow. It seems as thought they decided to go with a mash-up of Tm Drake and Damien Wayne. Interesting. Two Robins in one package.

It doesn't seem like a new approach to me. Seems more like they just Call him Tim Drake/Wayne but it's really just a way of using Jason Todd. Not that there is anything wrong with that. I personally think Jason Todd would be the perfect representation of Robin to be featured in Arkham City. However, if Jason Todd was the decision, why not include Red Hood as a playable skin over the Red Robin suit? Oh well. I'll be happy whatever the outcome.

Why does he have Donatello's staff?

I'll give you the Eminem thing, but how the heck did you mistake his mask for a face tat? Seriously. /facepalm

The new hooded picture makes Robin look like he's been visiting Chris Redfield's 'roid supplier. :P

I like this whole new concept of Robin. he looks like someone from the streets, someone broken and out for revenge. everything that he has done in his created past has only being leading up to his moment when he meets the person he pursues. and also giving him more of a toned body is better then what he normally looks like. also i do like the Buzz cut cause u also have to look at the aspect of the realism of putting and taking off a hoody, If u have long hair or even short hair you know that putting on a hoody can cause your hair gets pushed forward, But with the Buzz cut U don't have to worry. plus that just means If the do the whole stealth thing of his hoody being on and out of stealth mode when its off then it works great cause if you conpair to AC:Brotherhood Etzio well the really doesn't take that thing of except in like cinematic's then well they put work into that little scene just for his hoody to come off. I saw they kinda make the chest armor kinda of take a concept from "the Dark Knight" U know when batman kinda gets an Upgrade and his armor kinda has those close together metal plates that have spaces between them so that his armor move more when he moves and also protects most of him from bullets. any ways i'm don rambling on my opinion.

Will the real Dick Grayson please stand up?
eklypse69
Certainly beats a red babydoll polo and green hot pants.

Fix the hair and get rid of that buzz cut and I'll like it more.

Cole McGrath or Starkiller?
cerberusOD
I didn't know Batman hired Cole McGrath to be his sidekick...

I like the second picture but the hood/cape is awesome. I think the player should be able to control the hood, such as switching to detective stealth mode with Batman. This is great news I'm glad to see Robin is back in the fight and not forgotten.
