Black Rock Studio, the developer behind excellent racing games Split/Second and Pure, is being closed by Disney.
"Disney Interactive Studios confirms that Black Rock Studios' current project has not been greenlit for further development, consequently the company informed employees yesterday of the intent to enter a consultation process on the proposal to close the studios," wrote Disney in a statement. This news comes months after the studio laid of 40 percent of its work force.
As a huge fan of Black Rock's games, I blame you, the game-buying public, for not purchasing enough copies of these games. You should be ashamed of yourself. There's video of both games under the "Read More" tag.
All of the best people are following Stephen Johnson's twitter feed. Also, email me if you wanna.

Sad to hear it, but I'm not rich enough to buy racing games, I can only afford a few role-playing games (

This is the worst news to come out this weekend.

I believe the majority of people who own Pure probably do so because the game was bundled with many console packages. You can't expect those people to buy a second copy just to support a games company. Split/Second deserved better sales though. It's tough when it has to compete with the likes of the Need for Speed, Burnout and the Midnight Club franchises which are much more popular brands amongst the general game-playing public.

Well if you should know I bought both games and I supported the developer. Same goes for Bizarre Creations.

major bummer :( me & my friends played that regliously. more then we ever did for Needfor speed hot pursuit.
Luck702

I bought Split/Second so point that crooked finger elsewhere.

On the contrare, it was you, the reviewers that thwarted me away from this game with negative reviews. I was 100 percent interested in this game until the reviews said not to buy this game. You want to blame someone, blame your reviewers.

Split Second is such a great game, still play it. It's the only Disney game i can say that is worth checking

This is really sad news. I loved both Pure and Split Second. I would have loved to see sequels of both, especially Pure. Pure was high adrenaline ATV fun and was a blast to play. I also really liked Split Second except the helicopter parts were sometimes a bit too challenging.
Good luck to all the Black Rock employees and I wish you all the best! I thought your games were great!

I've better things to spend cash on, Disney's rich, unemployment checks will be nice....
Zzanzabar
Just not enough people in the genre to keep up the sales. Too bad they were very good at only ONE thing.

Unfortunately it's the world we live in today. When you lose 40% of your workforce production is bound to be lacking. You know it's getting bad when a huge corporation like Disney has to start cutting the fat.
Hope they all can sort their lives out, and get back to work soon.

I'd like to wish the best of luck to all the employees of Black Rock. It's a sad game in the gaming industry right now.

Oh Stephen, you are hurting my feelings! how did you know i didnt buy S/S? Im feeling so guilty now. Thank you so much, there goes my July 4 weekend.
Vikingfist
Aw, man! That's terrible news. I really liked S/S! My thoughts go out to all the BlackRock employees, in hopes their talents are recognized by others & they all find work again very soon! I was lookin' forward to the sequel!
