According to a post on Minecraft creator Notch's blog, Update 1.8 will add "NPC villages." My world (AssButt) is populated by me, my dog (ButtAss), interchangeable livestock, and monsters. But help is on the way in the form of non-player characters. That's the good news. The bad news: The update is a "significant time away," according to Notch.

Here's what else we can expect from 1.8:

  • New complex terrain features
  • At least one new MOB
  • New combat mechanics
  • New lighting engine
  • "Some experimental new gameplay ideas"
  • "More interesting" farming
  • Bigger incentives to explore
  • NPC villages

I have total faith in what Notch and his team are doing, but I'm hoping that as Minecraft becomes more of a "real" game, it doesn't lose the crazy charm that makes it so awesome now. Know what I mean?
