The Xbox 360 sold almost twice as many online-capable games as the PlayStation 3 in 2010, and almost seven times as many as the Nintendo Wii according to some new research released by the NPD group. The graphs don't show exact numbers, but we can see that sales for all three consoles increased from 2006 to 2008. We can also conclude that the Wii sales took a dip from 2009 to 2010 while the Xbox and PS3 sales continued to enjoy an increase in sales.
According to the analysis retailers sold nearly four times as many Xbox 360 point cards than PS3 in 2010 as well. However, the data doesn't take digital currency sales that were purchased directly through the systems in to account, so the numbers might be a bit off. You can view the NPD graphs after the break.

nice graphs but without a label on the Y unit, I really can't say it if it a huge or small difference. Guess i should do a little more research.

I would like to know the actual sales of games available through Xbox's Games OnDemand. I've bought Max Payne 1, Fable 2, Dead Rising 2 (and the first stand alone game) and Alan Wake (well technically they gave me a card with my 360 that I used to download the game).
I almost prefer to download games via OnDemand because I can't trade it in, and so in 1-2 years when I randomly want to play Dead Rising 2 I can simply jump on and play it on my 360. (although if I've deleted it since I'll have to redownload but that's free). The things that stop me from buy thing games though is that I can get ME1 used from GameStop for less then the 20 bucks M$ charges OnDemand. I mean shoot they still have 'Perfect Dark Zero' for 20 Bucks. I don't know what it is used but I'm sure it's way less then ten bucks.
But I think XBL just has a better community and thus that's why they win out on Online games that are for both consoles.

A bit? I know that I've never bought any sort of 'points card' for either Xbox Live or PSN, and always purchased my stuff directly through the network. Most of my friends do as well.
And then there is Steam, I've bought plenty there too.

It must be a slow news week if your reporting the obvious.

I can't wait to see the bitterness and denial of the fanboys.
Let the lying and the whining begin.
