Mass Effect may continue after the conclusion of Mass Effect 3.
BioWare's founders, Greg Zeschuk and Ray Muzyka, spoke with Forbes recently about the future of the franchise. "We do have a desire to continue the Mass Effect franchise," said Muzyka, "and we're working on the details, figuring out what the fans want, figuring out the right way."
"Certainly the setting has really resonated with people, the type of aliens in the world, the type of people that inhabit space," Zeschuk said. "Obviously we focus first and foremost on nailing it on this game, and then, you know, the possibilities in the future are very, very broad."
In the past BioWare's Casey Hudson has commented on a Mass Effect MMO "making sense." Once the current trilogy ends with Mass Effect 3, how do you want to see the franchise carry on? Do you even want the series to continue or would you rather it end on a high note?
Mass Effect 3 will be released on the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 on March 6, 2012.

I think it was a given that the Mass Effect franchise would continue after ME3. The thing about when developers create these universes is that you can get more than 1 story line out of it. Halo is a prime example.

A galaxy this big, you know they'll be back. Last I checked EA likes making money, and the guys at Bioware probably do too.
I'm not an MMO guy, but I think they can do some cool stuff with the universe.
I doubt it could be as grand or epic, as the galactic extinction threat.

lol i like that they phrase it "may" like it might not. Mass effect is one of the most successful franchises bioware has ever released, and if theyre gonna make back the money they spent on swtor any kind of quick (even if SWTOR is successful it would take like a year of a couple million subscribers to get like half their money) theyre gonna need to cash in on these games. That isnt to say that the trilogy wont end here, but what they'll probably do is start a new trilogy after this one ends, where your actions from the original 3 games effect the beginning and the universe as a whole the same way you could import your saves from dragon age 2, and have it centered around a different character.

It's obvious they will continue the franchise after ME3. It would be crazy for them not to do so in every sense (profit, fans, etc...). As for an MMO, their is absolutely no way. First, Bioware is already working on Old Republic. So throwing another MMO in a limited market (since people typically stick to one subscription based-MMO at a time) would be down right nuts. And secondly, what makes ME so great is that it's single player game play style is one of the things that make it more immersive than any MMO ever could hope to be.

I don't necessarily want the series to continue, but I would love the ability to constantly delve into the universe. An MMO would be perfect in my opinion.
