While it's hardly a surprise, Sony wants you to know that it is very aware of hackers. Very, very aware. The company promises "hyper vigilance" for the PlayStation Network looking forward.
In an interview with Computer and Videogames, Sony Europe's Andrew House said April's hacking attack (hattack) "taught Sony -- and many other companies -- that you have to adopt a stance of hyper vigilance."
"We are genuinely humbled and extremely grateful to those consumers who have continued to put their trust in us," House said. "That's a responsibility we now take even more seriously than we did before. We'll try our absolute best to try and make our system as secure as we possibly can."
Given the bottom-line losses the PlayStation Network fiasco caused for the company, the potential losses from jaded consumers, and the potential legal losses in the future, I think Sony is probably going to be industry leaders in network security. Personally, I feel more secure giving my personal information to Sony than I do to just about any other network.
What do you guys think? Is Sony's PlayStation Network now safe? Or did the worldwide media attention on the company's security problems make it an even more attractive target to hackers?

Kudos to Sony.
Have they hired back all the security people they laid off, before the April security breach?

They have also assigned different colors for the degree of which they think they are being hacked, and they have asked us to cover our PS3's in plastic wrap and duct-tape.
permanent_nirvana
What's unfortunate is that it took an attack of this magnitude for them to become aware of just how weak their security was.

Is anyone surprised? It is kind of expected, no matter who gets hacked obviously they will be on high alert after.
And to you ten year olds, up there^. You Need to go back to school. sony had some of the best security before the attack, hense why it took so long to even effect, but everything is hackable. I'm sure that they are even better now, and standing there with a kill switch just in case now.
sonicwind510
As long as they don't challenge hackers or try to mess with us by screwing with us and our $$$ they will b ok.... but something tells me they won't learn their lesson.

Un-hackable security for end users - buy pre-paid cards...

I agree, i think psn is more extremely secure after what happen to them. I could honestly say I'm happy to be in a comment section where there is no immaturity, thank goodness lol. But I true them alot more because of this and im sure they are going to be on their game. It sucks they had to be the examples of what an unsecured system was but it goes to show that they will make sure it doesn't happen again. With great power comes great responbility... They a going to take that into account this time around.

Okay first off as someone who loves his Xbox I want to apologize for Dude and other Xbots or Insane people who get on here and spout garbage about internet security at companies that they have no knowledge of.
Secondly I wouldn't doubt that Sony has a very secure network right now, or at least someone checking things every 30 minutes.
What I kind of do wonder though is if there was another successful hack how long it would take for Sony to let us know. And this is a fair question and not me being anti-Sony as Sony already proved it intentionally delayed telling the public about the hack and then the extent of the hack.

i love my xbox. and personally think its the best when i compare it to the ps3 (just my opinion). but as the writer of this article said. i would personally feel that safest right now with giving my info to sony haha

If they were ready i think they should have led with this at the E3 presser. If we've learned anything from all this it's that network security is just as important as anything else they choose to talk about at E3. So for next year why not talk about the fact that your company's beefing up security. If it just so happens that you're doing better than your competitor then why not hype that up. I don't see how it would be any different than when they would throw up charts of sales figures that were supposed to indicate their strength. A strong line up of games plus confidence in network security would go a long way towards reconciling with the gaming community.
scottyrob82
They might be aware of hackers but they sure aren't aware of security.

We'll just have to wait and see what happens now, won't we?

How do you know Microsoft has the best security? Have you seen their security system? Just because they haven't been hacked doesn't mean they have the best. How do you know Playstations new security system sucks? Have you seen it? No. Your opinion is crap. You are giving out wild and false accusations that you have no proof of. You're just being a Microsoft fanboy with you're biased opinion.
And another thing you should probably learn how to read. Obviously the quotations of Sony's message ended before "I think Sony is probably going to be industry leaders in network security. Personally, I feel more secure giving my personal information to Sony than I do to just about any other network." If you actually understood proper english and grammer you would know that is the writer, Stephen Johnson, personal opinion. Thats why he goes on and asks what your opinion is.
Seriously what is the point on bashing a system you probably don't even play? If you really want people to leave Playstation instead give us valid opinion with valid points. All this does is make you look like a dick to everyone else who reads it. You should probaly grow up and stop ruining the gaming community with your immaturity. The point of a community is to have a healthy debate and have good, fun and interesting conversation. Jerks like you just ruin it.

Please don't hack the psn or the xbl, i love playing uncharted online and i love playing halo reach. I need my dang video games.

Anyone on here who says "X's security is better than Y's security" just needs to shut up. None of you have the slightly idea what security either of these companies are running.

This should not only go for Sony but to all company. After seeing the many hacks and attempt every company should update their security. They are all here to make money, but to do so, you need customers. And after this many news, many and i can say thousands are not over the edge if not already felt over in trusting any internet site. I for one, even though i know about computers, security network and so on, i am always careful with what i enter and where, especially how much.
For example, Xbox Live, i have never enter my credit card, instead i have directly gone to Gamestop and bought the prepaid cards, the same goes for WOW. Is not that i dont trust them, is that i like to prevent.

microsoft still has the best security out of all the systems because the only error in their password security is social engineering. Sony make alot of money off their overpriced pieces of crap and they don't even spend alot of it on securiing themselves. They probably spent about 50 dollars on improving their security because they are cheap and don't think that they are going to get hacked again.
I think that sony saying they had the best security is a mistake because people are most likely going to start hacking it to say that it still sucks which it most likely does.
dmad1rulz
Thinking that just because they got hacked already makes them less of a target is somewhat stupid IMO. If anything, they might just try again, just not anytime soon. We as consumers need to be as vigilant as Sony to ensure the safety of our information as well. But I do agree that I feel a lot more comfortable with Sony now after the fact because they will make sure this doesn't happen again. Let's hope that other companies follow suit...
mrsappho
I highly doubt that hackers would target Sony again. I believe they definitely amped up their security, and with the law officials involved, they are no longer a high priority for hackers. Stephen said, "Personally, I feel more secure giving my personal information to Sony than I do to just about any other network." It was very unfortunate that Sony had to be the example to the other big corporations, but hey, its now more secure than Xbox Live.
Bifflet
i would bet they are probably have one of the safest networks now.
