Sony is rolling out a new PlayStation 3 model, the CECH-3000B, according to a Japanese retailer. The new PS3 model will apparently update and replace the current 320 GB PS3 systems once stock runs out. Pricing will remain the same, but some changes under the hood and aesthetically make this model at least noteworthy. Here's the rundown:
- Weight reduced from 6.6 pounds to 5.7 pounds.
- Power consumption cut from 230 watts to 200 watts.
- External detail changes to power, eject buttons, LED lamps.
So no, nothing magical. Still kind of cool though, if you're a hardware enthusiast. Me, I like my good old PS3 Fat, with 4 USB ports, 60 GB hard drive, and touch power/eject. But should she die on me, this 3000B PS3 sounds tempting.
What do you think? Cool? Doesn't matter? Meh?

Don't wake me until a new console model enables ps2 games. Till then i'll be enjoying my 250GB like its my first day with it.

At the risk of sounding like a whiner, I'm really not interested in any of the new PS3s because they lack backwards compatibility. If my gloss black beast ever kicks the bucket, I think I'd probably look to Ebay for a replacement. Backwards compatibility aside? Anything that can manage to decrease power consumption and look pretty doing it is a win in my book.

The Playstation Anorexic?

My question is will it have to be repaired in 3 years due to overheating. If not, sounds like a deal.

I know they are just replenishing their stock, but if Sony really wishes to make MONEY on these new models (and what company doesn't like their moneys?) then they'll contemplate a few upgrades. The market for ps2's is negligible by now, so it would make a lot of sense for them to fix the backwards compatibility problem that everyone complains about now. Also, I'd personally like to see the memory card slots back since it's a lot easier to copy info onto a memory stick pro duo by inserting it into the system than having to hunt down my psp, stick int into usb mode, then find a stable place to put it until it's done copying.
Oh, and Sony, if on the incredibly off chance you read this? PSOne classics trophys. All I'm sayin'.

Ya new upgrades are nice but theres nothing like the PS3 FAT 80gb with 4 usb ports and memory card slots,, it was the best PS3 model ever made, but this PS3 should be an improvement from the PS3 Slim

My good ole fluffy died on me 2 wks now, ironically playing some online killzone 3. I wont wait for this one as am getting a slim few days from now. Nice improvements tho. I think its cool

will this have to ability to play ps2 games? i don't think it even matters anymore. these idiots would buy the "high def" version of the game. how many of you actually still play ps2 ( other than myself.... that's why I'm still looking for a 60gb). sony is so slick they re-release ps2 games knowing that the ps2 has an amazing library. just let the ps3 die or something. hopefully the ps4 can play ps2 games. funny... the ps3 can't play ps3 games for whatever reason BUT it still plays ps1 games. don't be ignorant... think about it!

i just want a PS3 to use it as a Blue Ray player, thats all but they are not cheap enough. I also show PS3 being the #1 Blue Ray player.

Guys your missing the point Sony Isn't trying to get you to upgrade. They are just improving what they have for when you do upgrade or for new comers to the PS3. I think It's great because when my PS3 fat finally dies I can upgrade to a better model for the same price as I would for the one out now. Anyway I would just transfer my 250GB HDD to it because I NEED alot of space for my PS3. (this one's almost full)

I don't need to replace my slim PS3, it works good for me.
Stive4700
3USB ports and PS2 disc compatibility would be nice.

It will be called the "PS3 Slimmer".
IzzyCrazy1001
You dont have to upgrade or anything. Even if you FAT breaks they will replace the same model. They are just trying to make it more efficient. I still wont get one unless my son's ps3 breaks. My original one works just fine

I can see it now... sony pushes this model by killing the recent models and fat ones that they missed.... they get hacked again by anonymous... and they are NOT the bad guys!! Sony is the crook that has us leasing but it comes out of our pockets to replace it, right? I see u sony...I SEE U!!!!! U NEVER LEARN!

People, don't get all worked up. This is simply a case of a company planning to replenish stock of their product once current supply runs out. They aren't trying to get you to run out right now and buy a new PS3. Believe it or not, there may be customers out there that don't have a PS3 yet and this is what Sony is planning for.

I don't think you guys are paying attention. They aren't adding or taking anything away featurewise. So...... ya. I vote meh.

Yeah I agree,Sony needs to put back the backward_compatibility in the Play Station 3,that would be cool if they did that. This newer model of Play Station sounds really cool.Looking forward to it .
DARTH_RAIDER26
