While Duke Nukem Forever's long-ass development cycle may have put off many gamers, one fan's devotion to the game has paid off big. Way back in 2001, gamer Slash000 pre-ordered Duke Nukem Forever, and never lost faith. In the intervening ten years, Slash remained faithful, and never canceled his order.
Gearbox, DNF's developer, noticed his devotion and showered the stalwart gamer with a ton of free swag, including a copy of the game signed by the development team, a "Titty City Pint Glass" and more. Loyalty can pay off, people. Check out the full list, under the cut.

I've never waited more than a few weeks for a pre-order. How about you guys? Ever pre-order anything a long time in advance?

I've waited over a year for a few games - Killzone 3 most recently, and now have had Elder Scrolls V preordered for 5 months already. I think Mass Effect 3 may end up breaking that record, what with the now delayed 2012 release date TBD.

However, I do remember gamestop taking preorders for Starcraft: Ghost. Those poor souls...

I actually preordered Wind Waker before the Ocarina of Time disc was given away as a preorder bonus. I got it of course, but I guess that's the longest I've waited for a preorder. I also remember preordering Smash Bros. Brawl the day before it came out because I didn't realize it was going to be released so soon lol.

Tribes 2... and because it delayed so much (i think it was a year or so) I never pre-ordered anything until I knew it was worth it. I.E. Announced dates.

Heh..I pre-ordered Twilight Princess -years- before it finally game out. I got it back when bestbuy made the folly of setting up a pre-order before the game was 'technically' announced. Back when it was on GameCube. Waited -forever- on that bad boy, especially after the delays for them to get the Wii version ready for a simultaneous launch. Being the fan-boy I am, I got the Gamecube version first...played through it on my wii--then traded it in within a week or so from launch, almost got the full amount of money back, then turned around and re-purchased the Wii version. Aw..memories.

He probably put $5 on it and forgot.

Based on all the terrible reviews, waiting 10 years for this game and then getting a steaming pile of crap seems bittersweet.
HoFT013
All the swag in the developer's storage facility couldn't make up for that crappy game.

one time, the game was san andreas, and it was a week before. since then i thought pre odering games was a waste of time. but props to Slash000, ten years is longer than i would have waited.
