Gears Of War Movie In "Development Hell"

Gears of War 3

According to Gears of War creator Cliff Bleszinski, quoted by Gamefront, the Gears of War movie is in "development hell." If you're unfamiliar with Hollywood terminology, this means that the project is being shuffled around from person to person, and desk to desk, with no real heat behind it at the moment. In the words of Cliffy B:

“It’s in development hell right now. Who knows what’ll happen. It took however many years for Peter Jackson to make Lord of the Rings. Hollywood is a complicated beast. There’s all sorts of weirdness going on with who’s working on it, what’s going on here and there. But, hopefully it happens. Maybe the Gears 3 success will generate more interest in it. I’d love to see it. I’d rather have a movie that’s great and true to the franchise, than a movie that sucks. I’d rather not have a movie, than a movie that sucks.”

In other words: It could happen, still, if someone powerful in the entertainment industry gets behind the project and makes a big push for it to get back on track. I'm not sure if I want that to happen or not; I'm with Cliff here, I'd rather not see a movie based on a game than see a bad movie based on a game.

What about you? How do you feel about the Gears movie?

I am all for the idea of not making a movie at all if it isn't absolutely perfect. I don't really like the idea of a CGI movie though. If its already a video game, then a CGI movie will just be a compilation of the games put together. What's the difference? After playing the game, why watch a CGI movie?

my problem with the idea of a movie...is i'm so attached to the character's voices and faces as they are. and i don't think there actors that could look enough or sound enough like them to not throw me off. and anything less than a perfect match would be disappointing for the hardcore fans. if they can't do a jam up job on it...i'd rather stick to books and comics. i would definitely go see a cgi movie though...3d imax!!!

One thing you can guarantee is that the voice actor for Cole train will be in the movie whether it is CGI or not because he actually looks like his character and just towers over normal people. He had a recurring role in my wife and kids and did some other acting also. I've met most of the other voice actors and most of them couldn't play their characters unless it was CGI.

Can we at least have a cgi movie? Resident evil did a good job with degeneration.

They should just make it a CGI movie or something. A real live movie of a game usually sucks like how Max Payne and Bloodrayne did.

Don't much like Cliff B, but I do have to side him on this! Don't make the movie if it doesn't stay true to the game because it will SUCK! However someone else posted about making a CGI movie & imo I would say if they can't make the movie right then Epic should look into making A Gears CGI movie, I mean look at the game trailers for Gears 1-3, almost all of them are B#tchin!

If it's not rated R and doesnt have the real voice of Cole Train playing in the movie then forget it.

Won't work unless they make it as gory as the video game. Seriously an R rating or GTFO.

I think they should just take the game's models and reanimate them into a complete CGI movie and release it in theaters themselves with "3D" slapped all over it. Seeing it will get the distributors more excited than a script.

The game is already cinematic enough without an alternate "Hollywood" universe version.
