Mass Effect 3 Marketing To Focus On Female Shepard -- My Whining Paid Off

The Mass Effect franchise's marketing has always heavily focused on male Shepard while promoting ME1, ME2 and so far, ME3. While I can't complain about how male Shepard looks (because he's pretty), I do think it's weird that EA and BioWare have chosen to focus on the wrong Shepard. It turns out I'm not the only person who identifies Commander Shepard as a female. BioWare's David Silverman confirmed via twitter that a female Shepard trailer was on the way. "...There will be a #FemShep trailer. We actually had a meeting on her yesterday. We are working on the look now."

Female Shepard has long been hailed as the better acted Shepard, mostly by me. The credit for that goes to Jennifer Hale and her amazing voice acting. Since many gamers, both male and female, prefer female Shepard, there was a demand to see more trailers that featured her. In true internet fashion, if you whine about it enough, they will change it.

I'm curious, how many G4 readers play with a female Shepard too?

Tips or suggestions? Find me on twitter!

I do both, and although I like Hale's voice more than Meer's, Shep is a man to me. I am good with the femshep trailers though. it's all good. Just get me the game ASAP!!!

I've played both. I'm gald to hear that they're working on an iconic look for FemShep though.

I didn't play a male shep until after I beat ME1 and ME2 with my fem shep. While I do prefer my fem sheps, I do play as a male to get the other perspective of the overall story. And I've played both as renegade and paragon. But I do feel Jennifer Hale's voice acting is more inspired but to each their own. It reallllly needs to be March right now :)

Fem Shepard? Maybe if this was a housekeeping simulator.

    Amirite?

Just to be fair, Jennifer Hale sounds great in all the games she does, not just this one.

I'm female Commander Shepard. Why won't they let me romance Jack or at least a Krogan female?

I am a guy who likes his women with spunk and courage to face down a threat without hesitation. In my 15 play throughs of ME 2, with female and male saves from ME 1, I used the Female Shepard 8 out of 15 times, because Jennifer Hale just sounds so convincingly like the right the voice for the female Shepard. She has that strong tone that adds character and I like it. I am glad there will be a female Shepard trailer, since men are not the only gender that loves their Mass Effect, women are just as passionate and deserve to be represented.

If Bioware is taking requests, can I send my Sheps face code and have him featured in a commercial?

I personally prefer male-Shep, Mark Meer is awesome, But I prefer to make custom faces.
    J. Hale's tone is too soft for me, I do have a fem-Shep, but she is out numbered 1 to 6. She is also too scrawny.

Femshep is the iconic Shepard for me. The emotion, the speech patterns, and the subtleties win the day for me.

I tried the male Shepard the first time I played Mass Effect. Didn't like him. I didn't like the voice acting for him. Once I finished his story, I then created a female Shepard. I like Jennifer Hale's acting more than that guy who does the male Shepard.

I play both. One a Paragon the other a Renegade. In a game like ME your doing yourself a disservice by not playing though as each of them once. I like female Shepard because her looks are significantly varied from the default. I love the feeling I get when I see someone else's Shepard (male or female) and think to myself "Hey that's not what Commander Shepard looks like".

Jennifer Hale all the way. Her alone was why I chose to play the entire trilogy as a female shepard. The male shepard just seems like too much of cliche male role and the acting on his part is good but Hale just feels like she puts more effort into the character/voice.

I'm a guy and Commander Shepherd will always be female in my mind. However, I'm very upset by this news because I recently started a generic male Shepherd game with the intention of making him a total wimp for the sole purpose of seeing my Fail Shepherd in the ME3 trailers and getting a good laugh out of it.... and now they decide to do this. My timing couldn't be worse.

I haven't even attempted to play the male Shepard. Because I'm a female and isn't it nice that some games actually let you play a gender you can identify with? I think it's cool that they're going to put a little focus on female Shepard in a new trailer, too, obviously.

I think seeing that trailer will help me identify more with the game, too. Because when I see the previews with the male Shepard, it always takes me a second to recognize the game because MY game doesn't look like that.

Female Shepard FTW!!! Why you ask? Cause there is nothing better than being a female galactic hero who is down for kicking ass... well except for the obvious plus of a girl on girl relationship with one of video games sexiest and respected blue alien "Liara T'Soni" ;D

I would have to agree that Jennifer Hale does a much better job portraying Shepard. She is very good at conveying emotion in her voice acting. I don't know who does the voice acting for the male Shepard, but when I played through it as male, he sounded like a cold, emotionless robot. Even playing through as renegade the dialogue was flat.
