Want to hear a cool internet rumor? Mass Effect 3 will feature a four-player co-op mode. The rumor comes via Eurogamer, who says the online-enabled co-op mode is "standalone" and will feature "competitive elements." To the relief of fans of the series, the co-op mode will reportedly not compromise the single player campaign.
According to the rumors, the four-player mode of Mass Effect 3 will be a horde-style mode, with players challenged to shoot wave after wave of enemies before, presumably, succumbing to their evil.
Officially, BioWare is not talking about the four-player mode. When asked about the mode at E3, BioWare co-founder Ray Muzyka said, "We haven't talked at all about multiplayer in the Mass Effect franchise, but we're exploring multiplayer in all of our games and all of our franchises... The short answer is we have no comment on that. But we're interested in the idea of multiplayer."
What do you think of the possibility of multiplayer in Mass Effect 3? Is it a selling point for the game, or unnecessary trend-chasing on the part of BioWare?

If done right I think multiplayer would be a great addition to ME. They could make a completely customizable character similar to the single player where you get to choose your own powers,guns,armors,etc. Bioware says they are focusing on campaign which is the important part but seeing as how Bioware has done such a great job creating the series so far I think we can trust them enough to make a decent multiplayer to complement the singleplayer.

ok, As a fan of this series i think that they should focus on the main part of the game first; the single player campaign. Once they have that solid than i don't think it's a bad idea to attempt new gameplay features such as this. Given they aren't planning on compromising the main story than i say go for it.

WOW more people have commented on the Femshep promotion than this and half the people who have commented here kind of like the idea of Mass Effect 3 getting Co-op/MP. THIS IS A SAD F@#%ING DAY, EA SCREWS MASS EFFECT FANS JUST TO SELL NO COPIES TO DOUCHEBAG GAMERS WHO WON'T BUY THE GAME AND THERES ENOUGH APATHY AMONG MASS EFFECT FANS OUT THERE THAT THIS WILL HAPPEN!!!!
PS; Douchebag gamers descibes morons who will ONLY play Co-op/MP in games and are genrally aged between 12-21. They are not ANYONE who plays Co-op/MP. Just one more thing to back up my statement EA 's doin it for the douchebags: how many serious Mass Effect fans wouldn't by ME3 because of a Co-op/MP component?

As long as the single player campaign is kept true and the multiplayer doesn't mess with it, it may just be a worth while addition, albeit unnecessary most will buy and enjoy this epic game either way.

If its just an addon to the game for whatever reason but doesnt impact the main story/single player experience i wont really care about the multiplayer but may give it a go just for the hell of it.

The game industry is becoming so bland. It seems like every game now has to have single player, has to have co-op, has to have multi-player, has to have DLC, etc. Before long every major game release is going to be exactly identical to the next. Nothing stands out anymore.

I think we have enough co-cop multiplayer games that it makes me sick. Even games like uncharted getting it too? U want replay? How about u just play the game again. This is such an annoying fad that even angry birds or metal gear just might get it? What ever happened to playing thos epic solo games? This has got to end!!! These companies need to stop ruining games with coop multiplayer garbage because it takes away from the game being awsome.

I would think a 2 Player Co-Op or 3 for the Single Player Missions would be interesting. Or maybe even just 'action levels' that are more about the Alliance Movement and Defense of earth and you and 4 buddies can play Alliance Marines and maybe choose whether you are a Biotic, Pure Soldier, Engineer, Adept and all but you get only a few special powers and you play levels like that.
Like you have to fight your way through Reapers to the Bunker of some Diplomat or someone who has some sort of Technology that may help Shepard or someone else down the road.
'Horde' mode just sounds too much like a Gears of War/L4D rip off which will officially change this game into a Pure Third Person Shooter.
I could think of a few cool ideas to do with a Co-Op Multiplayer.

It would be somewhat interesting to see how they would do it if it is in fact part of the game. That aside it is not something I would really want to see in the game. I'd rather they spend the extra time on adding new stuff to the main story.

Nooooooo complete waste of programers no ones real going play it for extended period of time the time taken to dev this crap could have went to something useful in the story. Bioshock2 all over again. This is probably the real reason why it was delayed.
