Wii U Hands-On Impressions -- Battle Mii and Zelda HD

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword will not be a Wii U title. Many gamers, myself include, assumed Skyward Sword would release on both the Wii and Wii U, similar to the way Twilight Princess was released on both the Wii and GameCube. VentureBeat had the chance to talk with Reggie Fils-Aime of Nintendo about the Wii U. They asked if the Wii U's controller prevented the game from having a dual platform release. Fils-Aime confirmed their suspicions, "Correct. And it’s because Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword was built to be played with a Wii controller."

VentureBeat pointed out that Zelda in HD was shown off at E3. This prompted them to wonder if there would be a Zelda game on the Wii U. Fils-Aime acknowledged that's what gamers want, "We showed what Link might look like in a 1080p environment, and it got people pretty excited." I doubt we'll see any details on an HD Zelda game until Skyward Sword is released this holiday.

Reggie wanted to remind gamers what you saw in the press conference were actual games.  "You shouldn’t expect them to turn into games. What I mean by that is we’ve been very clear that these are interactive experiences. We use E3 as a way to gauge our feedback. So certainly there may be some experiences that turn into games, but others have been purely experimental."

Do you think it was fair they showed Skyward Sword with the Wii U when that won't be an option? Also, is it likely there will be a HD Zelda title for the Wii U's launch?

that's stupid. if it was shown at E3 and it was recognized as a WiiU disk, why would they NOT sell this game for the WiiU. I think that nintendo will NOT maximize potential profit margins on the game. hope this flops as a lesson to nintendo: THE MORE AVAILABLE THE GAME, THE HIGHER THE MARGIN OF PROFITS ARE. basic economics here. :>

Who doesn't want there to be a Zelda title in HD? So the probability of having an HD Zelda title on the Wii U will be good. :D

I do not think i can buy a nintendo anything ever again! the brand has gotten so bland to me, and the new system just seams like "um, hum, well OK, one tab controller too". im not sure what i want from nintendo. maybe its just the 3rd party support that died with the N64. are any of you torn with nintendo.

you mean not yet, if you recall nintendo purposly delayed twilight princess so it would be a wii launch title rather than a simple gamecube game.

Chances are the majority of Nintendo's mainstream franchises will find a home on the Wii U and will take full advantage of the HD graphics the game offers. Its really a question of if any will be launch titles.

I'm not certain a launch Zelda title will happen with Skyward Sword being released just a year (or less, as I don't think it was certain to be a Holiday 2012 release although it's a high possibility) before the Wii U, and as we've seen it takes them quite some time to put out a new full, home-console, Zelda chapter. Gamecube only had one before the Wii was put out, and it just got one as mercy, as the game was intended for Wii but promised much earlier to be on Gamecube. We N64 players were lucky to have gotten Ocarina AND Majora's Mask :)

Isn't the wii U backward compatible?

Which ever Zelda game that was it proved how powerful the console is. I may be wrong but it seem as if it was either on the same level or above that of the PS3 graphic. How do all of you feel about this new consoles graphics in 1080p?

Nintendo HAS to put a zelda title to the Wii U launch the same way they HAVE to put a mario title to the Wii U launch. No matter what third party games are coming out Nintendo knows that these are the system selling IP's and without them their taking a huge chance with the Wii U.

Oh my! Oh dear! Whatever shall we do? I think I'll run around
like a chicken with my head come off!

    Oh... backwards compatible you say.
    Controllers and everything.. er, ah.
    Well, never mind then.

If you haven't been through a console transition before, please raise your hand..

I don't know why people thought it would be (at least followers of this site and channel). I could have sworn that Reggie said in his interview with Adam and Blair, the Skyward Sword would only be on the Wii.

Dang, and I was hoping you could still use a Gamecube controller with this game. I'm guessing, based off that statement, that that won't be possible.
