E3 2011 might be over, but it certainly isn't done yet. The Feedback Crew assembled on our G4 stage to talk all things E3, and shouldn't we have that set all the time? It was very swanky. Join Adam Sessler, Morgan Webb, Blair Herter, Eric Eckstein, Nikole Zivalich, and myself in an info-packed episode of Feedback where we talk about Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft, and more! Want to know what we thought about the Sony Vita? The Wii U? Kinectapalooza? Battlefield 3's puzzling tank demo? Tune in and see!
Feedback: Delightfully ready to slip into a post-E3 coma. At least until some good games come out.

As to the point of where the industry is moving, I think everyone may be overlooking the simple fact that we're still in the midst of a pretty hefty recession. No multi-million/multi-billion dollar corporation is going to be embracing the types of risks necessary to push the medium forward until there is some sort of promise that the reward will be substantial.
Sure, individual developers, like Irrational, Insomniac, and Valve have enough capital or reputation to push forward these unique IPs, but as Adam pointed out, EA and Activision are largely tied to their shareholder's interest: money, and lots of it. So until the consumer economy improves (i.e. around the time the political conversation goes from deficit control and spending back to stimulus projects and grants, which could be years...), we're in for a long ride of sequels and shovelware (don't blame solely Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony for that, the stuff sells).
Additionally, I believe that everyone on the panel is underestimating the potential that the Wii U has as a console, but that's mostly because so little (tangible) gameplay was shown. Nintendo needed to boost investor confidence with the promise of a new machine, whether or not it's full capabilities were ready to be showcased.

I'n not happy with Wii U, I think many gamers are tired of Mii games and casual games. I like Nintendo first party games in hd, but if they want to target more gamers, the wii brand doesn't sell to hardcore gamers. I hoping a strong 3rd party support, and the controller can do many inovating things. But Xbox 720 and ps3 are a few years away from coming out. I think gamers would rather wait for them rather than buy a wii u. But I do love the Sony Vita, that could have some potential and it's in a nice price range.

I like how morgan has to remind us that she's a grown up in every episode of feedback that she's on.

When I first saw the Wii U, I did not know what to think of it; I was left confused and unimpressed, since there was just no good games coming to it and I do not like the fact that you can only use one of those screen controllers on that that box at a time, instead of multiple, which is a very stupid thing to do.
Kinect's stuff did not really impress, especially Star Wars Kinect. I was incredibly hyped for it and when I got to see it in action, I felt like vomiting because it looked so pathetic; you have practically no freedom of control over the game aside from swinging the blade and pushing stuff out of the way.
Sony's vita actually looked pretty cool and got me interested into wanting to try it out, far more than the 3DS, as that one has no good games to truly represent the technology.
In terms of quality games this year, I was floored. Sure there are very little new IPs, but the existing franchises looked incredible; Mass Effect 3, Gears of War 3, Skyrim, Far Cry 3, Battlefield 3, Ghost Recon Future Soldier, and Batman Arkham City were the ones that I had my jaw dropped to, especially Gears of War 3, because of the amount of content I will be getting from a shooter! A brand spanking new Horde mode that looks like a dream come true with boss fights, huge amounts of enemy types, and weapons and defenses to choose from. Beast mode is an incredibly fresh addition that got me excited. And of course 4 player co op, what else is there to say? It is incredible.
The other games that really made my jaw drop were Mass Effect 3, with its amazing scope with the Reapers landing and laying waste, WHILE you are shooting Husks and Indoctrinated Cerberus Commandos! That was insane stuff right there. Plus the revamped melees and speed of combat kept the game looking fresh. I especially enjoy the transition from cut scene to game play, it really fits well with the game.
The last game that really made me almost wet myself was Skyrim. THAT. GAME. IS. HUGE! The dynamic characteristics of the dragons alone has sold me, but Bethesda obviously did not stop there. oh no!! They revamped the graphics with the Creation Engine, making a incredibly detailed world that i just want to explore. The combat looks amazing, with the weapons seem like they have weight. The best part, is the dual hand abilities, SO many fricken combinations that I was completely impressed. You can do any combination of dual spell casting, dual swords, sword and shield, staff and shield, hand and sword, etc. Just so much freedom choice.
The game of show for me would have to be Gears of War 3, because of the unprecedented amount of content that is being put it into it that would make it, bar none, the best third person shooter of the year, hands down. Best FPS goes to Battlefield 3, for sure. Skyrim is my number 2 game of the show and Mass Effect 3 is my number 3. Too many good games this year. We are going to see a noticeable lack of productivity from employees by the end of the year...

I was excited for the WiiU, but you guys have talked me down a bit. I still have hope though.
I predict that, after hearing the outcry from the industry, Nintendo announces a "Hard Core" controller for the system, but the Tablet controller is still available, just in case.
I am interested to see what happens, but, I will wait to pass judgement, like everyone should, until we have more information about the system.

I think when compared to the past E3's this one was pretty boring.

Sony was the best but where was Call of Duty for the PS Vita?? I was so looking forward to that!!

I thought the Kinect stuff was cool but it seems like they are dead set against it at this point and won't change there minds for anything, seriously talking to mass effect will totally get you more amerced in the world and its something i'v thought they should do ever sense we found out about kinect.

I agree with a lot of what you are saying, but does anyone else feel that this years e3 as a whole kind of sucked? I look forward to this all year round. Now that is over I am not satisfied at all and it makes me sad. I really don't think its that hard to give people what they want, not what people think they want. All of these gimmicks are not working. I have my 360, I wont buy a kinect. I am sick of motion control completely and would like to ask is anybody else? It really felt like the entire e3 was based around motion control, first person shooters. I guess Ill start with fps, I am not hating on fps but that just isn't my type of game to the point where I will buy 8 games that all essentially do the same thing, shoot things. I will probably end up getting one of them, but I really just don't need the "variety" of things to blow up. There are some exceptions I guess I have and maybe its because I am a story gamer or not an online player(I just cant handle hearing people I don't know), but those were Bioshock Infinite, Rage, and Farcry 3. All of which I thought looked great.
Motion controls are ruining games for me. I don't need it. I suppose its nice every once in a while, and I understand "casual gamers" love it but are they really going to fork out more money for another system completely? I just don't think so. I am shocked that the kinect is selling as well as it is because I really see no use for it other than the fact that its kinda cool. Give me a real game. The only "gimmick" that I think works in gamers favors, and I hate to say it because I am totally against it, is 3D. I hate the 3D phase, its not necessary, but it does not take away from the gaming experience. Does it enhance it? Probably not, but it also is not making developers over think things and put out crap or stuff that I personally am not going waste my time on. And I feel that the 3DS was the only thing that really impressed me over the entire convention. Playstation Vita whatever it is looks fine and dandy but its not for me. Maybe its because I am not the largest fan of Playstation. They have great looking games, The Uncharted series and God of War almost made me buy a PS3 but I didn't, I don't think its necessary to have both consoles and I like having Xbox for Xbox Live, and not so much anymore but I used to like their exclusives better. But along with that, the main thing with The Vita is that it is supposed to be like a portable PS3. Which on paper is nice but if I want to play Bioshock, I don't want to play it on a portable. I like it on the big screen. So thats where the 3DS wins I guess. I hate the term casual but in my opinion portable games should be casual. I like to pick up and play so I don't burn out my eyes on this little tiny system. And being brought up on nintendo I love the 5 big titles they brought to the table. I do not have a 3DS but with Kid Icarus, Mario Kart, Mario 3DS, Star Fox, Zelda, and more under appreciated Luigi's Mansion 2. I know they sold me and I will buy a 3DS by the end of the year. But with all of those, the 3d element will not make it any harder on nintendo to make the game play the right way or even feel too much different. Where as we have seen with the wii, things just didn't work well at times because there was too much thought going into it.
So as a whole I am disappointed. There were titles I am looking forward too, but there were no huge surprises that really got me excited. Its sad when the most exciting surprise was Luigi's Mansion 2. There are still some games that are coming out that don't fall into those 2 categories I mentioned like Batman Arkham City, Rayman Origins, Dead Island, and Tomb Raider(orgasms and all) but at least for gamers like myself we got a little jipped.

Pretty much completely agree with the summary at the end of the video. Whats needed at the next E3 is a TON of all new IP's, replacing the trilogies that are ending or at least taking a year or 2 break. If the come back next year at E3 with Gears 4 and Mass Effect 4 and MW 4 etc...it will go from plateau to a decline. Maybe not in sales per-say, but in interest and in excitement.
I think Sessler is exactly right in we are so used to getting excited for new consoles because the new games that come with them are what we truely are excited for. What we need for the next 2 years isnt new consoles but innovation and new IP's.
I think Nintendos President admitting they F'ed up with the presentation of the Wii-U is proof enough that that topic is over, no need to talk about how horrible they did anymore. Their stock dropped, he admitted they went way to hard on the "controller" & "specs arent important" aspect so bringing it up anymore than it has been in the past 2 days is a over talked about point. Lets just move on, try to figure out more then let the discussion of if it will sell well or not arise at next years E3 when they have actual games and demos.
I think the only thing you guys didnt fully grasp because most of you seem to be console gamers (which is totally fine) is the BF3 tank demo. To a BF2 lover, PC gamer, that demo was PERFECT. Everything about that demo was perfect. It showed how opposite BF3 is from COD. It showed how realistic both in looks (near and far) and in story the game will be. Meaning your missions and gameplay is as real as a game can get to the real thing soldiers are doing right now. Also perfect to us PC Battlefield gamers about the demo was that they played it on PC, and not just that but they essentially told us the specs that the PC was a i5 2500K, with one Nvidia 580 GPU. All these things made that demo PERFECT for us PC gamers. However to console gamers like yourselves your left wondering "well what does it look like on a console? Why not show something more exciting?" etc.
I believe i read that Ezio is in fact more like 50 years old in this game. But i have NO problem with that, but just like a 50 year old (sometimes older) martial arts master, or 50 year old special forces operator, you can be that old and still be highly effective because of your experience and daily training. I love that they remedied the realism of having him run and jump across roof tops the hook though. Thats the perfect way to keep him agile and silent still but not have you playing as a 50 year old climbing up 7 story buildings then running for 30 minutes across roof tops.
Now in terms of being Ezio'ed out? I along with almost everyone wouldnt dislike a new assassin. But i think we are stuck in a "video game" way of thinking, not a story telling way of thinking when it comes to this IP. Altair and Ezio are much more important than just 2 characters you happen to play as from Desmonds ancestory. Obviously with this game continuing Ezio's story and this game having Altiar in it, proves that they are PIVOTAL to the answers on how to save earth for Desmond. So anyone saying "im tired of him, on to a new assassin" just proves how little they really are connected to the plot and story line.

I honestly dont think that tank video was a boring as you guys said it was, I know i was excited still looking at all the detail they put into this and the fact that its all on the frostbite 2 engine is amazing.

You touched on Investors a bit this feedback.
Personally I think a game company going public and/or being public is ultimately bad for gamers.
Investors and gamers tend to want completely different things out of their games. In the end, the game company has to side with the investor. Also big budget does not always mean big return.

Oh I forgot to mention as well that Nintendo also made one of its biggest mistakes it could with the Wii U by incorporating a tablet styled controller. They have officially stated by their own actions that they are not competing with Sony and Microsoft, but with Apple.
And you know what? Apple will crush them.
The Apple TV 2 (or even rumored Apple TV 3) is poised to be able to play all of the existing App Store games on your HDTV in the living room through the iPads, iPod touches and iPhones out there. The only thing holding them back is the lack of tangible controls, which however can be fixed with clip on peripherals of any sort that currently exist.
Nintendo is "Sega-ing" themselves right now and would actually be better off dropping all hardware creation and sticking with software. They could then release all of their games on the Playstations, Xboxes and Apple products and rake in billions in revenues.
I personally would buy all the Mario games to play on my PS3 or iPhone/Apple TV 2.
KindredEX
Agree with the panel for the most part... This E3 was mostly a snooze fest. Nintendo was the winner of the losers with the Wii U. They would have been further ahead just making a Wii HD and showing a boat load of classic games with HD graphics. I personally think that this is absurd that Nintendo is yet again releasing a "new" system without a classic Mario title.
DownwithBigBrother
Does G4 not get invited to the nintendo roundtables or something? Ubisoft showed off two "real" games in developement along with 3 others not shown. A ghost recon online port which allows you to control a drone on the screen looking for enemies while your character is on the tv still being controled at the same time while the drone is being controlled and spotting enemies you can "dot" those enemies that will appear on the tv screen dotted as well as everyone's screen you are playing with and on their map on the touchscreen's map allowing easier team play as well as setting up beacons for other players.
Other demo is described as a comedic horror sci-fi fps called "killer freaks from outer space" where you control a london guy who survived an alien attack and is trying to get get footage of the aliens as well as kill them and is controlled either traditionally with the buttons or the controller can be moved around you using the gyroscopes and screen as the aiming kinda like an AR game. Local multiplayer is also supported as they one player uses a classic controller and plays on the tv and the other player has a map on the wiipad and spawns aliens for the other player to shoot

I feel like Nintendo should've given more emphasis on the specs of the actual console itself (rather than the controller), shown on this link:

I have to disagree I didn't think the WiiU was as bad as you guys made it out to be.
