Red Faction: Origins, the film meant to bridge the gap between Rad Faction: Guerilla and Red Faction: Armageddon, premiered last night on SyFy. Did you catch it? Normally I wouldn't expect much from a video game movie adaptation, especially one that's made for cable. But, this film was actually fairly impressive. But don't worry if you missed it. Red Factions: Origins will air again on June 6 at 5:30 PM Eastern / 4:30 PM Central on SyFy.
The story picks up nearly 25 years after the events of Guerilla, and Robert Patrick is badass as a grizzled, elder Alec Mason who has taken to drowning the sorrow over his murdered wife and lost daughter with alcohol and bar fights. From the opening scene with Alec holed up in a bar, you'll notice familiar Red Faction architecture, clothing, graphic logos, and you can even spot b-roll from the game in the background on the video screens during a news broadcast.
The performances are solid all around (and damn, now I want a prequel movie with Robert Patrick as Alec Mason back in his heyday), and it's impressive that SyFy can do on shoestring budget what Hollywood can't seem to do with hundreds millions of dollars: make a good video game movie. Head on beyond the break to watch a trailer for the movie, and tune in tomorrow as a break during all of the E3 madness!

Trailer doesn't look like red faction at all

I haven't seen the movie but I'm confused after watching the trailer. Does the brother and sister bang? The guy is laying in bed with a blonde girl then says "Dad I found her!" Is that what almost happened in Star Wars and they thought it would be a good plot surprise or something? Like I said I haven't seen it and probably will, I'm just confused right now.

The movie was actually quite boring. It could have been about anything if you removed the Red Faction from the title. It's relevance to the game stops there. Seemed like an episode of a TV series, not one second of Aliens either. Too much human interest relationship garbage. Another typical SyFAIL event. That station has taken a dive straight into the toilet. SAVE SGU!!!!!!

Minecraft.

Red faction guerilla was probably the most fun i have had with a game in this generation. If only every game incorporated the destruction that game had

Wasn't impressed. Started to fall asleep in the second half and felt the urge to turn it off.

The only problem I had with the movie was that the fighting skills of the characters was inconsistent. Was cool though. The feel kinda reminded me of Firefly.

This is probably the first thing that Syfy has done right for a while. There is no "sci-fi" on anymore. They took away some of the greatest science fiction franchises (Stargate, Battlestar, etc) ever to put sweaty men in tights acting out some red-neck's version of "reality tv" on... Really, sometimes I think "Idiocracy" had it right all along.

Haven't played Red Faction yet. Perhaps the T-1000 will convince me to do so?

I was surprised it was that good too,. When I heard RedFaction and Robert [atrick was in it, I was like holy brown stain this might be good, and it was. Glad to see it get a little recognition on a well known site such as g4.

"syfy movie" and "worth watching" is an oxymoron
