Nintendo has already let part of their E3 2011 cat out of the bag by telling us that they'd be introducing a new console for sure at the show, setting the wheels of wild speculation and rumor into full speed. Will it feature touch screens? Will it be more powerful than the Xbox 360 and the PS3? Will it have a Mario or Zelda title at launch? WILL IT BE THE SECOND COMING? No one knows. Also, we're hoping they make up for the anemic 3DS launch by announcing some new titles for the handheld that blow our socks off.
E3 means that rumors, predictions, and speculations run rampant for nearly half of a year as gamers imagine what might be coming, while developers tease and hint at things to come. Here are our predictions for Nintendo at E3 2011.
Moye Ishimoto, Hanglider
- What Might Happen: Nintendo’s new console will be white.
- What Will Never Happen: Nintendo’s former Executive VP Cammie Dunaway makes a triumphant return and this time, she won’t be wearing a pants suit.
Nikole Zivalich, Sword Bearer
- What Might Happen: Nintendo will announce their new console. I've named it the Niintiindii. It will boast HD graphics, a 250 GB hard drive, and old school gaming controllers. Please?
- What Will Never Happen: VITALITY SENSORS FOR EVERYONE!
Kevin Kelly, Firestarter
- What Might Happen: Nintendo's new console announcement will cause a fever pitch of excitement, but will have few launch titles.
- What Will Never Happen: Nintendo Buys LucasArts and restructures the entire company, ousting George Lucas in a power play, and revamps, uprezzes, and re-releases all of the classic LucasArts adventure game titles. Full Throttle HD, on my Wii2!
Leah Jackson, Pigtail Wearer
- What Might Happen: Super Smash Bros.: InsertFightingSynonymHere will be announced for the new Nintendo Console, and eSports fans will get very, very hyped.
- What Will Never Happen: Project Café will have more than one decent launch title.
Antonio Hernandez, Partier
- What Might Happen: Nintendo will announce a new console and unveil an HD Zelda title.
- What Will Never Happen: Nintendo announces a new Earthbound game.
Eric Eckstein, Motion Tracker
- What Might Happen: Skyward Sword will be positioned as a Project Cafe title as well, Donkey Kong will come to 3DS and when revealed Tuesday morning, the new Nintendo console will make fan boys weep and cheer during a business press conference.
- What Will Never Happen: Luigi gets yet another spin-off game, this time for Project Cafe, and no one else likes it except for me.
Dana Vinson, Island Girl
- What Might Happen: Nintendo's new console will focus less on motion control, and more on performance. Though the launch line up will be light, there will be one or two system sellers that no one will be able to pass up.
- What Will Never Happen: Reggie will announce that he got so good at basketball playing Wii Sports Resort, that he's leaving Nintendo to join a professional basketball team. Also, a Dr. Mario TV show.
Stephen Johnson, Hacker-Upper
- What Might Happen: Nintendo and Netflix will announce that Netflix movies will be streamable on the 3DS, in 3D.
- What Will Never Happen: Nintendo reveals a brand new IP that’s on par with Zelda, Mario or even Animal Crossing.
Sophie Prell, Robot
- What Might Happen: Nintendo will unveil Project Cafe, people will marvel at its ingenuity and the L.A. Convention Center will barely contain the massive nerdgasm.
- What Will Never Happen: Nintendo outsources Mario and Peach for a dramatic re-imagining, courtesy of Team Ninja. Mario is now a ninja, Peach is reduced to stereotypical, incapable girl-child status (with huge goombas, if you know what I mean) who only gets kidnapped because Mario didn't authorize her to resist.
Matt Keil, Infamous
- What Might Happen: The 3DS Mario game is shown off and is impressive enough to make a few skeptics into believers.
- What Will Never Happen: The conference turns out to be 90 minutes of Nintendo begging forgiveness for Metroid: Other M.
Jake Gaskill, Procrastinator
- What Might Happen: Nintendo’s new console will dazzle everyone with its technological potential, but unlike years past, the lineup of titles will not only be extensive but also the most core-centric lineup in Nintendo’s history.
- What Will Never Happen: Shigeru Miyamoto will not appear in some form or another holding a sword and shield.
What do you think? What will Nintendo pull out of the bag next Tuesday?
