Heroes of Ruin, a brand new Nintendo 3DS IP has been announced by Square Enix. Featuring an ever-changing world, players will experience dynamic environments that will change every time they jump in. The story is still a bit unclear, but what we know right now is that it will feature four heroes who are brought together to form an alliance.
The game plans to make extensive use of the 3DS' StreetPass and SpotPass functionality as well as a breadth of social media integration to offer unique multiplayer elements. Heroes of Ruin will also feature a drop in/drop out co-op multiplayer system, a community website, and a "Traders Network."
"Heroes of Ruin uses StreetPass to create an inventive in-game ‘Traders’ Network’ where players can buy and sell rare and powerful items picked up in battle. With an ever-changing inventory updated from each player passed in public, character strengths and abilities can be greatly enhanced by accessing items from other players’ games," said Mona Hamilton, vice president of marketing and public relations for Square Enix.
Players will also get perks through the Nintendo 3DS SpotPass functionality. When you go near a local Wi-Fi hotspot you can access the Heroes of Ruin community website which plans to offer daily challenges and quests to complete in the game. You can also meet up with other players via the website so that you can easily jump into another player's game.
Heroes of Ruin will be available early 2012 for the Nintendo 3DS. Depending on how grand the story and how the multiplayer will be utilized are some of the determining factors for me. I've been craving some The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures action for a while now, so if Heroes of Ruin is anything like that then I'm very excited to see more from this game. What about you?
