Mortal Kombat: Legacy wraps the Scorpion vs. Sub-Zero origin story with an inevitable tragedy, but coupled with a bit of a swerve.
We were last left with a tease as the two legendary rivals began their fateful duel. And now, the trash talk is in full swing and the fighting finally gets down and dirty. Spears and freeze balls are flying, as nothing but the quintessence of Mortal Kombat is on display in this episode.
...And nobody calls Scorpion's Shirai Ryu "inferior!"
Being the payoff to everything that was set up in the last episode with Hanzo Hasashi/Scorpion, his family life, and the dilemma of his line's continued legacy, we suddenly see everything he's ever loved taken away from him by a frosty act of vindictiveness. -- Except it's a bit more complex than that, as there were actually a few culprits, each with their own agendas.
After Hasashi (Ian Anthony Dale) finds all his people and even his own family murdered, seemingly by Sub-Zero (Kevan Ohtsji), it appears that the rivalry was the result of machinations by MK's sinister Sorcerers, Quan Chi (Michael Rogers) and Shang Tsung (Johnson Phan). It seems that Scorpion and Sub-Zero may have both been pawns in this plan with motives that remain mysterious. (Free Outworld swag from Shao Khan?)
As the fiery powers of vengeance literally consume Hasashi, he now finds himself a servant of the evil duo. (Albeit with some kick-ass new powers and the ability to spontaneously start a barbecue.)
Have any thoughts on this twist-happy take on the Scorpion/Sub-Zero rivalry?
