MLB 2K Contest Ends With A Gamer Millionaire; Meet The Million Dollar Gamer

Chances are good Brian Kingrey is a lot like you. He's 25, a newly married music teacher, and a gamer who plays League of Legends and Call of Duty.  But unlike you, Kingrey is also a millionaire. Meet the winner of Take-Two Interactive's million-dollar MLB 2K11 contest, a challenge that awards a million bucks to the first gamer who pitchs a perfect game in MLB2K11.

"I actually heard about the contest on X-Play," Kingrey said, "As soon as we saw it, my wife said to me, 'you have to do this.'"

Kingrey says he practiced for about five hours a day for the two weeks leading up to the start of the contest, then, when it was time to compete, he completed a perfect game on only his third try.  "I'm really into competitive games," Kingrey said.

Kingrey went into the contest with a plan, choosing to play as the game's cover athlete, the Phillies' Roy Halladay, in a game against the Houston Astros. "Halladay has this really mean slider that's incredible versus right-handed batters," Kingrey explained, "I picked the Astros because they're really aggressive when they attack the ball, so they swing at a lot of pitches they probably shouldn't swing at, and the Astros have only two left-handed batters."  The strategy worked perfectly, and Kingrey said it only took him around two hours to pitch a perfect game.

As for the big question with any contest winner -- what are you going to do with the money, after you pay off your debts? -- Kingrey has a practical answer, "Our first purchase is going to be a refrigerator. Me and my wife just got married. We just got into our new house, and we can't afford a refrigerator just yet, so we've been using a little dorm fridge."

Kingrey, who says he wasn't much of a baseball fan before deciding to win the contest, says he's looking out for the next big gaming challenge. "Whatever pops up, if I hear about it, I'll go for it," Kingrey said.
