As of RIFT's next major content patch, 1.3, which will be hitting sometime this summer, players of the fantasy massively multiplayer online role playing game will be treated to free character transfers. Meaning, if you play on one server and get bored of its inhabitants or you can't find enough people to do stuff with, you can move around and find a more suitable home for your Ascended.
“MMOs are all about playing with your friends no matter which server they’re on, and that’s why we’re offering this as a free service to our subscribers,” said Scott Hartsman, Executive Producer of RIFT.
It's convenient that this announcement comes so soon after World of Warcraft community manager Nethaera mentioned that WoW would be implementing a premium cross-realm dungeon service for an extra price to their consumers. Hartsman's quote seems to be a direct response to the MMO giant and one that fans of RIFT can surely stand behind.
“RIFT is both a game and a service, and adding free server transfers is just one more way we can make this the best possible MMO experience available,” said Hartsman. Once per week, subscribers can transfer to another server taking all of their items, achievements, and titles with them. Plus, guild leaders will be able to move their guild's level and experience. Meaning, if you and your entire guild want to server transfer it will be incredibly easy to do so (it will also be easy for GMs to make away like a bandit).
RIFT's first major content patch hit not too long ago and you can still sign up for a free trial of the game at www.RIFTgame.com/freetrial.
