Modern Warfare 3 Cover Art Revealed?

Remember the huge Call of Duty: Modern Ware 3 leak from last week? Well Giant Bomb has received details about a company-wide e-mail that Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg sent out this morning regarding the leak that happened exactly a week ago on Kotaku. The e-mail details how the company handled the event internally and how they were able to turn what could have been absolutely disastrous into a strategic advantage.

"I wanted to reach out to you today and address the Call of Duty intellectual property leak that occurred last Friday," said Hirshberg, "Of course, Activision takes very seriously any abuse of our intellectual property – the event is under investigation and we’re confident it will be resolved quickly."

According to Giant Bomb the e-mail doesn't provide any details on where the leak came from but instead it goes on to say that while the leak did come a week before Activision's projected MW3 launch (that was supposed to culminate in a commercial during the NBA Finals) the company was able to spin it into a good thing.

Once the leak hit Kotaku last Friday the company went in to damage control mode. Since the leak occured so close to the launch date, Hirshberg said that, "we had a number of assets that had not yet been released, but were ready to go."

And that's when they began to release a series of teaser trailer videos for the highly anticipated threequel. "When it came to light that we had suffered a significant security breach, it became clear that a leak of this size had the potential to throw our launch off of its schedule, or worse, blunt its momentum," he wrote. "As a company, we needed to look both backwards and forwards simultaneously. Of course we needed to immediately begin finding the source of the leak. But we also needed to deal with the fact that, like it or not, our launch had just begun."

The result of rolling out the trailers through Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter, according to Hirshberg, was phenomenal.  "We had over 4.8 million hits on the various Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 teasers over those first 48 hours. To put that in perspective, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty: Black Ops had 61,000 and 89,000 hits, respectively, in their first two days. Pre-sales for MW3 are off to an amazing start. Perhaps, most importantly, we migrated the dialogue from one that was between our players and the leakers, to one between our players and us."

The e-mail finishes by explaining how very few companies could have, "woken up with a crisis of this magnitude, and gone to bed with an undeniable win." And he tells his employees to be proud that they managed to come away from this PR disaster with a win.

Of course Activision has to cover this up and act like everything's peachy for PR reasons but honestly for once it seems like they really aren't doing so bad because of the leak. Sure Kotaku ruined their launch but now they're getting more hits and everyone's talking about MW3 now even more than they would have been next week probably. What do you think about Hirshberg's e-mail? Do you think he's being sincere about his jubilism over how the launch is going now, or do you think Activision is still stewing over how their largest title for E3 has been a bit tarnished?

Im one of those people that can enjoy just about any movie, regardless of how bad it is. (minus chick flicks)

Its kinda the same with games. CoD isnt really the best thing out there anymore, but I still enjoy it. I tried MP, it was beyond annoying with the mix of people that were in there. I'll enjoy the MW3 single player for what it is and most likely wont bother with MP.

    Okay what happened now?

I was not aware nor do I care.

I haven't played any of these and I know they're tired, wore out and whored out.

Call of Duty......the next Guitar Hero. It will kill the war shooter genre and oh what a glorious day that will be won't it.

God is a good and prosperous god ain't she? Praise her!

could all the battlefield fan boys go away now, I've never played call of duty but it really gets annoying when I'm looking at this article and there's so much hate for this game, honestly if you don't like call of duty and don't wanna say something nice about it why are you here in the first place? get a damn life and go play "good games"

Honestly I'm tired the call of duty franchise, I've played 4 games from the series but have never owned any of them, and I probably wont, because I don't like online multiplayer game much , and the single player modes in these Call of Duty games are too damn short for me to justify buying one of them,I'll never buy this game and hope this game bombs big time, then Activision will have to make other games that are actually good.I say "down with COD up with good games!"

I'm sure this game will do well but I'd like to see a review of it first. With everything that's happened to Infinity Ward, I'm sure that's changed some of the initial plans for MW3. Plus, I didn't care for MW2. I'm not saying it was bad, it was okay, but I need some real convincing to buy it this time. I'm not going to get it because my friends did this time around, I'm going to wait and see how things play out.

In one of the trailers from last week they had a building falling down..Lets see that is exactly what a trailer from BF 3 had weeks before when they brought out their trailer.Call of Duty is so sad that they are stealing from the BF 3 trailers..It was so obvious .What else they going to steal from..they can't think of anything original for themselves.

There are two kinds of leaks: the first is a basic sink leak. where a piece of concept art or gameplay/teaser trailer is released. this leak was more like the second kind. more like the Gulf Oil Spill leak. the difference between Activision and BP is that Activision knows how to fix disasters in less than 5 months to fix it and make it better.

So many of you swear that BF3 will be so much better, why not just shut up? People like CoD leave them alone and stop crying. You make yourself look like a fool when you slam someone for liking something you don't.

lol X-play keeps deleting my comments or somethigs bugged. Anyways IMO they have to back thier game up with amazing sound and visual effects quality otherwise All of the CoD fanboys will end up looking stupid for assuming CoD is the best fps game out there(which its not). Battlefield 3's trailer has made the game look amazing. If MW3 is anything like the last CoD it won't be as visually pleasing as BF3 IMO.

The audacity of the Activision employee is amusing to say the least. His statement is keeping with the arrogant format that has become the staple that is Activision. This so-called leak was just another marketing ploy Activision is becoming synonymous with. Interestingly that letter very swiftly made it's way to the internet, probably around the exact same time it was sent to the employees.

Activision has become the masters of advertising. EA and other companies need to take some notes to help accelerate attention to their high profile products.

Or maybe this is just an unorthodox ad campaign? Leaks always brings attention to a game, this is nothing new, its new that the pencil pushers are behind it as much as they are... conspiracies may be afoot if you ask me.
