Morning Hangover #71 -- Andrew Looks For Feedback, Patrick Has TV Envy

Here at G4, it feels like those weeks right before summer vacation. You know, time goes by too slowly, it's all you can think or talk about, and also, you'll be busting your ass at your summer job at E3 2011. That's us this week. It's going to be a lot of hard work to bring you the coverage you deserve, but we will do it, and we will have a blast.

Next week's show is mostly going to be about E3: The Experience, the games, the terrifying stories... but since this is your Feedback, we want to hear from you. What do YOU want us to cover at E3 this year? What kinds of stories do you want to see, what games do you not want to miss- what should G4 at E3 look like. Join the crew as they discuss the ins, the outs, and why tiny sticks of deodorant are your best friends at E3.

Also, you're going to get to hear Adam and Matt geek out to the extreme about The Witcher 2. So prepare yourself, and give us your questions!

My question is a 2 part question. With Mass Effect 2 and Red Dead Redemption already being out before last years E3. Do you think E3 is the place to find the biggest news or best games still? Also looking back at last years E3 what do you think now that the Nintendo 3ds, Kinect and Playstation move are all out?

My question is a two part question about E3. I was wondering now a year later seing that Mass Effect Red Dead redemption were games not mentioned at last years E3 because they already were released before E3. Do you think that E3 is the place to find the big news and the best games or could be more hype than substance? Plus how do you feel a year later looking back at the E3 of 2010? With the Nintendo 3ds Kinect and the move now out?

FeedBack Question: With new gamers being born everyday and older gamers...well set in there ways. Will bigger companies other than Rockstar take the risk on games that are not easy sales but can perhaps push the industry forward?

P.S. I loved LA Noire and that is a perfect example of a game moving the industry forward done correctly. I would be classified as one of those older gamers set in his ways, but really enjoyed a new take on what a video game is suppose to be.

With a number of exclusive AAA titles for the Playstion Sony seemed to be heading for E3 as a clear show stealer. Since the shut down of PSN Sony has been completely deflated. What can Sony do at E3 to recover?

While I know the big Triple A titles will get the kind of coverage they deserve, and there is always at least a segment in your coverage about "indie games," whatever that term even means anymore, it seems that the games and developers in-between those two extremes get short shrift. "The Witcher," both the original and its sequel are prime examples of this. No one was giving Projekt RED any attention, and while "The Witcher" didn't exactly set the world on fire, it made a big enough splash that people are still playing it. "The Witcher II" seems to have completely changed the landscape by: a.) not being an EA, Activision, or 2K release; b) completely reinventing the choice/consequences mechanic; c) not being afraid of being adult, not just in terms of content, but in narrative as well; and d) ignoring the console market altogether. More coverage of this type of under-the-radar game development can only strengthen the industry creatively. Now, if we could only get "L.A. Noire" on PC. It's a good year to not be a fourteen year old twitch gamer!

    Death of the passive protagonist.

It seems as if more developers want to focus on story, but the games that shine have a key ingredient that has been overlooked for too long. A protagonist with a strong voice and an independent purpose, prominent examples being L.A. Noire, Mass Effect, Uncharted, rather than the character being only a window for the player to see into this world.

Do you think a stronger narrative comes from adding this element or can a story be just as successful without it? (Portal 2, Halo Reach)

Here's my question, concerning Nintendo's console future:

Articles covering Nintendo's announcement of a new console seem to be ignoring the giant elephant in the room, which is that no matter how powerful and accessible Nintendo's system may be, the company's published games get the vast majority of attention. Even if this new system is as successful as the wii, do you expect to see a repeat of this generation where 3rd parties try to squeeze what little demand there is in that userbase, but ultimately treat it as the industry step-child for a forth consecutive generation?

Also, I'd like to hear what Retro Studios is up to these days.

Do you think that Nintendo has jumped the gun with Project Cafe, or have they just ran out of bullets with the Wii. We've seen what happens when a console is released early (Dreamcast), Will Nintendo suffer the same fate or will the gamers want a taste of their Cafe's Coffee?

All I care about is Bioshock: Infinite and Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning to be honest... maybe Dead Island.

The ball dropped about MW3 coming out. I'm trying to figure out how activision has the rights to push out MW3 if Infinity Ward/Respawn Ent. owns the rights/name to the series.

Recently we saw that L.A. Noire can cause the consoles to crash or freeze often. There is speculation that the Game is too much for the consoles to handle. I honestly didn't except to hear this for a long while. Do you think that because games are only going to get more complex in developing, graphics and rendering, that we will see a new console generation come much sooner than expected? L.A. Noire is a large scaled game with the best character renderings I've ever seen, but the game play style is simple yet effective. With things like "Skyrim" on the horizon that include more complex feature of game play, and amazing environmental detail and rendering, do you think we will see more and more games that are too much for consoles to handle, and we will see a new console generation much sooner than expected, or was L.A. Noire a one time fluke? From my understanding, Microsoft and Sony never saw this theoretically happening, and if 3A title games continue to be too much for consoles with only more innovation from developers to come, they are of course going to have to put something out on the market quickly that can handle these complex games, or force developers to tone down how much they put into a game which would hinder the games quality. So, do you think it is possible that games could become to much for consoles in the near future, and with suddenly no consoles to handle the content that is out there, see a depression in the gaming market, or some kind of short term effect that deeply affects the markets. I know there was a update for L.A. Noire recently but it doesn't seem to have fixed the problem for me and several of my friends. Could this effect how quickly we see a new gaming console, and could this effect the gaming market?

Because of the new motion scan tech from Rockstar, do you think this can add another possible cheesiness to games? What I mean is, bad voice acting is one thing, but good programming and art can minimize that if the characters are done well. What Rockstar has done is taken an actor completely in the game so their acting skill plays an enormous part in it. If you have a bad actor, all of a sudden you might ruin your game. This is different from computer animated movies because the character can be animated well even if the voice acting sucks. Is this bringing too much of an actor into a game?

Well on facebook everyone seems to want gears of war and modern warfare 3. Let's be realistic here of course they will cover those games, because they are hugely popular and very high ranking to top anticipated games. I want to see them cover games that IGN, Gamespot, or some other game website that will most likely cover, and not G4. I want to see you guys cover, Journey for PSN, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, games for the NGP (if any), Child of Eden, Bioshock Infinite, Sonic Generations, Dead Island, Ratchet and Clank all 4 one, Final Fantasy XIII-2, Dark Souls, Max Payne 3, From Dust, Spider-man Edge of Time, Silent Hill Downpour, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine, I could go on and on with the list, but I think you get where I'm going at. Basically, just go over some games that are big titles, but some games that are not as big as well. I also put the list in order from greatest to least as to what I want to see, besides the big games of course.

L.A. Noire is a beautiful and truly amazing game, and I want to love it, but I am terrible at it. I can only correctly question a character about 50% of the time. I do think it is a huge achievement for video games, but do you think its focus on such a specific game mechanic is a detriment? Is anyone else having a hard realizing they would be a terrible detective?

Does anyone remember OnLive? I have been trying to make a decision to either buy a new xbox, PS3, or invest in a gaming computer. OnLive seems like a good alternative to all of these considering most console exclusives are made available and seems to be much easier on the wallet. Why isn't this taking off? Are all these new titles at E3 going to become available with OnLive the same time they are released for the other consoles?

Do you Think Nintendo will actually be truly ahead for once,or continue as the normally do and be two steps ahead but take one step back.

I'd really like to hear what genre you think has been missing from gaming platforms, or what game is being overlooked because of the big name game companies at E3.

One thing I want is to see some gameplay videos, or at least trailers with some gameplay. It's hard to know what a game will be like just from Cinematics, other then to know it has shiny graphics!!

Also definitely booth babes, because they're awesome. Although it would be nice to showcase some booth babes that actually CARE and KNOW about the Video Games they are advertising for!

Furthermore showing some of the awesome Cosplayers would be great to! <3
