Microsoft's blog today highlights an amazing offer that could spell ruin for our nation's young scholars' study time. The company says it's giving away a free Xbox 360 to students who purchase a Windows 7 PC that costs over $699.
Beginning on May 22, if you buy any kind of Windows PC over the price point at a participating retailer, you'll get a free 4GB Xbox 360, no strings attached. The offer is available only in the United States right now, but similar deals are planned for Canada and France. The offer's end date varies by retailer, so get in line now, or plan to buy one online at Dell.com or through Microsoft.
Plying students with free game systems is a good marketing ploy, but I worry for the grades of our nation's students, know what I mean?
So who's going to take advantage of this offer? Anyone out there clamoring for a free 360?

If it would have been 250GB I would have been all for this.

Hey I'm attending college next school year and am in need of a new laptop and a Xbox 360!!! Somebody heard my silent prayers :D

........Me and the wife just bought one :( BLAST!!!

I build mid level gaming PC's at that price point.....so I can't see myself going for that deal, but seeing as I'll be transferring from CC to UC soon. I might just have to take them up on that offer in the form of a laptop purchase.
(The main problem is that I barely have time to buy games, let alone play them lol)

Kinda worth it since I need to get a better laptop and my girlfriend was expecting my old one but with this I can just buy a new laptop and sell both the new xbox and the old laptop to buy he an actual new one too.
Either way it's free money :D

is this just college students or could a high schooler (me) get one with this deal too?

considering my Laptop is a piece of crap, and am actually currently in the market for a new one, and a new console since my PS3 YLoD not too long ago, can anybody say "Winning"?
psbox362
What a coincidence, I've been looking to upgrade both my laptop and my 360.

I know i,m speculating but i think i might be on to something. The console cycles are coming to an end somewhere in the next 5 years. Microsoft is already hiring for a new dev team to work on a new console. And this offer along with the update that blocks out xboxs from working i think are ploys to get rid of old xboxs in wave for the new one. Also (in refrence to this marketing tool) trying to get people who haven't already joined the xbox 360 crowd to join in. This is a pretty good timing to considering the ps3 fiasco and the end of the school year since people need new computors for the new year of school ahead.

Yay free stuff!

You never really see Sony do this stuff with PSN. If they do I have RARELY seen it.

I'd rather they just give students free gold accounts. But hey, free stuff is always cool.

No i'm on my last PC i'm hoping to move to a Mac next. And this isn't enough to get me to buy a PC.

i am a student of my own imagination...now..
GIMME FREE STUFF!
Spartan0671
I haven't had to install one game on my 360, ever. The only time I had to was MGS4 on my PS3. 4gigs is more than enough to play games. Christ, you guys get anything free and it's "Oh we want better free stuff."
JustTheBeginning
Eww a 4 gig? Its really like a 150-200 dollar off credit then, good but nothing that would make me get a PC just for it. You can get similar deals on other expensive PC's too.

where was this last year?!!?!? >:[

Only a 4G? No harddrive? Don't a lot of games kinda require you to install them to make them playable?
