A lot of gamers have a problem with the fact that the 360 version of L.A. Noire is on three discs -- that means twice in the 20 hours of gameplay the game contains, you'll have to get off your couch and switch a disc -- but according to developer Rockstar Games' writer and director Brendan McNamara, there was a time when the game was on twice as many DVDs.
McNamara told Gamespot:. "It took a lot of effort to get down to three discs - I think we were on four or five or six at one point - and to get it onto one Blu-ray."
Rockstar used "miraculous compression" to get the game to half its original size. Presumably, black magic was involved, but we don't have specific details.
I didn't have a problem with the disc-switching on the 360 version -- it's really not that big a deal -- but what about you guys? Did anyone out there have a problems with Noire's disc policy?

Anyone that has such an issue with disk swapping really needs to get outside more...

Don't see what all the bickering is about. Sure Blu-Ray disks are better, but most PS3 owners payed quite a lot for that convenience. As for Xbox 360 owners, they could just pay a couple bucks for some extension cords so they can have the console near where they sit so they too can enjoy that luxury.
Besides, is this really an issue? We've lived through all the days of multi-something on the PC since it became a gaming platform, as well as all the multi-disk games that have been on the consoles (Final Fantasy games stand out on that one) and people still have a problem with this?
What troubles me more is that this... "issue" seems to be more important in the news post than the fact that we may or may not have to pay extra for that cut content.

I don't mind getting up to change discs, but I do mind contents being cut (later to be sold as DLC) so the 360 version of the game can have it in three discs. Please Microsoft, include a Blu-ray drive for your next console.

so short-sighted. multiple disc games have been around longer than consoles. huge floppy discs, the smaller ones, cd-rom, dvd-rom and one day blu-ray will have multiple disc games. the frequency in which storage formats increase capacity to accommodate more data is very low. the amount of data that the next generation of console games will use for visual assets alone will be enormous by current standards. When you read the article, they almost didn't fit LA Noire on a single blu-ray disc. Content exceeds storage space every generation, change discs, big deal, it has never bothered the Final Fantasy kids.

Anything cut will be released as paid DLC... and then later complete with the whole game for $30. A year later.

I'm no PS3 fanboy because i have both consoles and use them equally, but you see, this is when you can see how superior the PS3's technology is. 360=3 discs, PS3= 1 disc.

IT doesn't bother anyone that games started sucking ass when they stopped making multiple discs? This is something I feel very strongly about. Games that SHOULD take forever and a day to finish are packed into just one disc and suffer for it. I mean what's the point of making better storage devices if you're not going to use them? I don't know... Its not wrong to make a one disc game its just that games like FF VII and Metal Gear Solid rocked for a reason.

As a proud owner of all the consoles, I am glad I do not have to get in the muck with all the fanboys, but let me just say this: The Blu-Ray vs. DVD storage format is the most inane of PS3 fanboy arguments. I can't wait for the next generation of consoles when everyone will use Blu-Ray and I never have to read this crap about multiple discs again
