PlayStation Network PSN

Now that the PlayStation Network is mostly restored, Sony has revealed its "make good" offer to consumers, so pull yourself out of that multiplayer game on the PSN for a minute and receive your free stuff! The offer includes games, movies, PlayStation Plus access and free stuff for PlayStation Home.

Let's start with the games: Sony is giving PlayStation 3 users the choice of two of the following titles, available  for 30 days shortly after PlayStation Store is restored. They can be kept forever:

PSP owners will be eligible to download two PSP games from the following list. The games will be available for 30 days shortly after PlayStation Store is restored and can be kept forever.

Here are the rest of the freebies you can expect for your loyalty and patience:

  • A selection of “On Us” rental movie titles will be available to PlayStation Network customers over one weekend, where Video Service is available. Those titles will be announced soon.
  • 30 days free PlayStation Plus membership for non PlayStation Plus subscribers.
  • Existing PlayStation Plus subscribers will receive an additional 60 days of free subscription.
  • Existing Music Unlimited Premium Trial subscription members will receive an additional 30 days of free premium subscription.
  • Additional 30 days + time lost for existing members of Music Unlimited Premium/Basic subscription free of charge for existing Premium/Basic members.
  • To welcome users Home, PlayStation Home will be offering 100 free virtual items. Additional free content will be released soon, including the next addition to the Home Mansion personal space, and Ooblag’s Alien Casino, an exclusive game.

So, what do you guys think? Is this compensation a generous gift? Or is it too little, too late? Does the offer affect your loyalty toward Sony in a positive or negative way?

Personally, I already own inFamous and LittleBigPlanet, but they are both top-notch games that you'll be very happy with... I guess it's Dead Nation and Wipeout for me!

I don't have a PS3 and was very critical of how Sony was handling everything up till this point. But even I think this is a pretty good deal for everyone affected. Even though it was already mentioned earlier, the fact that they are giving everyone a year of free credit monitoring should be listed since I pay 15 dollars a month for mine through Experian so that is a pretty nice gift to give as well.

All in all, I thought they would maybe give you guys one of their less popular games along with 30 days of service. So the fact that there are actually some pretty decent choices allowed, along with some pretty big name games is surprising (for me at least).

My only question is... do all of these free games count as game sales? Would be kind of funny to all of a sudden see next months top selling games with inFamous and LittleBigPlanet suddenly "selling" 50 million each.

Ok so I misread the fact about keeping the games FOREVER...but that does not change a thing..most of you wont play them for more than 30 days anyways..and as long as mama sony keeps telling you everything is ok, you guppies will believe them..but the fact is that they compromised millions of people's personal info..and who knows how many have already been a victim of identity theft..you PS3 users are so stupid..how quickly you were rdy to crush me for simply reading a statement wrong..and you wont even go at sony with the real issues...no you are happy with a pick of old games from a very short list...Sony basically says..Hey we screwed up but we know there is nothing most of you fools can do about it so here are some free non expensive items that you can have...hope it holds you over until we violate your privacy again...so go ahead ps3 fanboys be the sad uneducated guppies you are...and hate on others opinions..cuz well there is not much else you are good for.

Generous offer, but the damage has already been done. Your image in the eyes of the public is still one of insecurity. Good luck trying to make up for that. BETRAYAL.

@ignored_man, no offense man( and i usually do not call people out) but its not just the fact that the network was down, personal information was leaked as well and it was confirmed, the only thing that was somewhat clouded was the credit card information so the fact that "sensitive" information was not secured properly warrants some "whining" though i must agree some of the psn users out there are "entitled whiny pricks" after all when using internet based services there is always the risk of something being taken altered or used without your knowledge, so you need to expect something like this,

Nothing personal as i said before and this is only my opinion after all but those of you out there that are ignorant pull you head out, and others, do not trust sony so quickly until they have proven they have proper security.

I've beeen wanting to pick up inFAMOUS for a while so that will by my first pick. I might also pick up Dead Nation. And I'd get an additional 60 (or 90??!) days on top of the Playstation Plus. I'm alright with this. :)

I never got angry in the first place. My sister said something about "class action lawsuit" and I said I didn't want any part of it. This mea culpa is alright by me. Now it kind of feels like my birthday, and someone cares! I get two free video games and a bunch of other stuff? Oh yeah. Worth it. Thanks /b/!

To be honest, I like the selction of games that they gave. Sure, not the games I wanted, but LBP is a game I haven't played in a long while and I'm itching to put some of my creations on the aLbp cration space thing. InFAMOUS isn't a game that I would get into much, so I'll leave that alone. The other two are a tough decision, but I think I'll go with wipeout HD...

Now, for PSP, it's a no brainer, I'll take LBP AND MNR. Simple as that. And I seen some fee stuff I could get with the PSN plus like some select PS1 game I haven't played since '97 or something like that. Thank you sony for giving us these things even though some people don't deserve it because they whine and moan and piss on your accomplishments of beefing up the security to maximum and making sure that something like this doesn't happen again.

Again, Thank you and please, by all means, if you have to shut down PSN for check ups even if it's weekly or monthly...

I don't own a ps3 or a psp. that said the network going down was brutal and will have a effect for a long time. that said the possibility to get 2 ps3 games and 2 psp games is nice. for those that own the games they care about you do have the option to earn earn store credit at gamestop or where ever you choose to go. I already saw the free month or 2 coming to subscription coming. I think this is nice and better than I expected. I got a ps2 for X-mas a launch and it was faulty so Sony said they send em a game that i picked out over the phone, never came. I hope this goes better than my experience.

Kinda sad that the rabid sony fangirls are this blindly loyal. This offer isnt a "nice" gesture, its a "crap we have to cover our butts!" offer. Ive almost bought a ps3 many times but still cant justify the purchase. The subpar online ive played on my friends system turned me off that part of it, but id love to try infamous and killzone etc.

LMFAO, Sony has to BUY their customers back. Pathetic.

I'll take advantage of the rentals and PlayStation Plus free subscription to get a few games at discounted rates. I hope Castle Crashers will be cheaper than 15, that'd be sweet. Otherwise, I own inFAMOUS and LBP already, with no desire to own the others listed. Too bad Heavy Rain wasn't on that list, I woulda gobbled that one up like nobody's business.

I applaud you, Sony. Thanks for the love :-)

Ok first of all I do apologize..due to a slight case of dyslexia I sometimes mix up words like can or can't, so I misread the fact about keeping the games forever...but that aside, My loyalty can not be won or regained by throwing some free items at me...there is a standard that a company like sony should be upholding, for itself and its gamers..and I do not think that they have done that..and until they prove otherwise I don't think full trust and support should be given to them...now in response to the argument of them apologizing..they didn't not at first..this event lasted 3 weeks give or take..and it took them almost three days to explain to anyone what was going one..and once they did it took them almost two more days to tell us that our personal information had been compromised...I think they were hoping to sweep things under the rug and clean up the mess before anyone found out..and once they realized they couldn't or didn't know how, that's when they came out and apologized... Microsoft will always be the giant..they have almost a full decade of software knowledge on sony and they will continue to have that far into the future..and when microsoft discovered their infamous RROD, they repaired or compensated every single person who suffered from it..they didn't just ask us to hang in there with them, they didn't leave us in the dark..we knew exactly what the issue was and how to go about fixing it..that is the difference. So don't be so easily pursuaded by the dog and pony show..and start looking at what they have really done..and what Sony has done is betray our trust..and our personal privacy, and those actions do not warrant turning the other cheek...I mean come on that is exactly what they want you to do..and I am not saying Sony is a crap company..in fact I think they do amazing things, but not in this case...this shows that as "GAMERS" we should be asking the harder questions, not being content with the preety lights and explosions. "There is more to Gaming then just Games."

Since I dont pay for psn, I don't really care. People who think Sony owes them anything are just entitled whiny little pricks.(unless you have PSN plus). Expecting Sony to pay up because their free service they provide you is down, is like excpecting to use the internet for free just because you own a computer.
