PlayStation Network PSN

Now that the PlayStation Network is mostly restored, Sony has revealed its "make good" offer to consumers, so pull yourself out of that multiplayer game on the PSN for a minute and receive your free stuff! The offer includes games, movies, PlayStation Plus access and free stuff for PlayStation Home.

Let's start with the games: Sony is giving PlayStation 3 users the choice of two of the following titles, available  for 30 days shortly after PlayStation Store is restored. They can be kept forever:

PSP owners will be eligible to download two PSP games from the following list. The games will be available for 30 days shortly after PlayStation Store is restored and can be kept forever.

Here are the rest of the freebies you can expect for your loyalty and patience:

  • A selection of “On Us” rental movie titles will be available to PlayStation Network customers over one weekend, where Video Service is available. Those titles will be announced soon.
  • 30 days free PlayStation Plus membership for non PlayStation Plus subscribers.
  • Existing PlayStation Plus subscribers will receive an additional 60 days of free subscription.
  • Existing Music Unlimited Premium Trial subscription members will receive an additional 30 days of free premium subscription.
  • Additional 30 days + time lost for existing members of Music Unlimited Premium/Basic subscription free of charge for existing Premium/Basic members.
  • To welcome users Home, PlayStation Home will be offering 100 free virtual items. Additional free content will be released soon, including the next addition to the Home Mansion personal space, and Ooblag’s Alien Casino, an exclusive game.

So, what do you guys think? Is this compensation a generous gift? Or is it too little, too late? Does the offer affect your loyalty toward Sony in a positive or negative way?

Personally, I already own inFamous and LittleBigPlanet, but they are both top-notch games that you'll be very happy with... I guess it's Dead Nation and Wipeout for me!

So two games most people have and the rest is crap. Way to go Sony! How about letting people choose what games they want? Some have the right idea though. Sell those games for cash and get what you really want. Then say. "Thank you Sony."

Oh well I updated my ps3. Now back to LA Noire on my 360!

I don't blame Sony for the PSN outage but I never turn down free stuff, it's rude. I also don't have LBP or Super Stardust. However, just Jungan, who said it best, I want Justice, Cruel, unforgiving JUSTICE. Non of that Batman BS. Ha see what I did there?

This is fine. I logged in and was happy to see I never used a cc on the site. I changed all my user info to completely bogus data so if it happens again it won't matter. I never used complete information anyway so the hackers would have a hard time getting useful info. I put a free fraud watch on my credit report so I'm as secure as I can be under the circumstances. I yanked all my Xbox Live info too. and any saved cc.

As someone that hasn't connected to PSN in many months getting my hands on InFamous and super stardust is a big treat. But I just don't see how these freebies are making things right with mutliplayer/shooter junkies who this service outage significantly impacted. As a REACH addict not being able to play for a month would have made me crazy. I think working with large title game developers to provide some free game specific content (at Sony's expense) may have been more meaningful. That way they are getting something for the experience that they were missing rather than freebies that are meaningless to many of these gamers.

infamous will be nice I suppose. if I own both a ps3 and psp do I get more games? and it is nice that Sony gave us the option of what game we want instead of Microsoft who just gave everyone the same crappy game for when their service went down.

The ONLY thing I want from Sony are the mangled corpses of the hackers responsible for this, or to see them rot in a Federal Pound-You-in-the-Azz Prison for many, many years.

    Or a Mexican jail.

I guess it will have to be Dead Nation and inFamous, the other games don't sound very good.

I guess I'm going with Dead Nation since I either own the other games or couldn't careless about the others.

So many of sony "fans" seem so mad at sony, but its not like they downed thier own system. If you wanna get something go find the hacker and make him give you free stuff. Get over yourself yeah PSN went down, yeah it sucked but this stuff happens with tech. Sony should only be giving back to the people who had been paying for thier services, everyone eles should just be content with being able to play online for FREE again.

Sony have a lot of ground to cover to make consumers implicitly trust PSN again, so the freebies are a nice gesture.

While a broader selection of games / movies wouldve had me more excited (already own 3 of the five games).....

...I'm more interested in the 'long overdue' Identity Theft Protection emails/subscriptions we were all supposed to recieve.

Everyone still complaining of Sony's incompetence at this point is either a troll or is just plain butthurt. Seriously, take a freebie and be content. To my knowledge, there has yet to be even one report of a credit card used fraudulently due to this security breach, so the only damage to report at the moment is several weeks of no online play (which didn't seriously affect anyone with an actual life) and possible spam messages. Chalk it up to experience and get over it, kiddies.

All I like to say is Thank you Sony for everything, the years of reliable gaming and the quality games you supplied us. Also Thank you Microsoft and Nintendo for just being there.

Just glad to play again. I was this close to "thinking" about getting an X-Box. Then I thought about spending "countless dollars" on a gaming PC just to play "games". Both were silly ideas, "what can I say, moments of weakness" No offense X-boxers and assumeablly "rich" PC'ers.
