Dead Island's cinematic trailer from a few months ago blew us away but it left us wondering what the game was about. We finally got some hands-on time with Dead Island and it wasn't exactly what we expected. We were surprised by how melee based it was.
"Combat in Dead Island is largely melee based. You’ll be getting up close and personal with the ghouls using homemade and found weapons. The safehouses we saw all had workbenches you can use to combine weapons, upgrade weapons, and repair old favorites. Weapons can be made more durable, faster, or more lethal, and interesting combination include things like sticky grenades, a bat with nails driven through it, and an electrified machete. I started out with a knife and left the friendliness of the survivors to face the zombie hordes outside."

After watching the trailer I was so amped for this game, like others, thinking it was a dark story and game. Well now finding out that this is like dead rising and/or left for dead I am out. Bring back the serious, dark zombie game like the first couple of RE's.

I was hoping or more of a dark fear based game.. .. they already have enough campy zombie killing games.. lets get the dark feeling of the first resident evil game back.. thats the game I was hoping for..

Hey I bet the next Grand trismo & Pro golf game is gonna have zombies in it. It seems the Zombies already invaded gaming...and they're winning. Its gonna be real funny when a non-zombie game has more zombies than a real zombie game.

I watched the original trailer again. Then I read the previews again. Then I came to the conclusion. Its dead rising in first person. Maybe without the crazy bosses. I mean watch the original trailer again. I was really hoping for a serious zombie game. Im sure this will have its serious parts, as well as a rapper armed with an arsenal of one liners and custom weapons. I will have to wait for it to come out to know for sure though. It could very well be good. I was just hoping for a very very dark game.
