According to industry analysts at the NPD Group, the winner of the console wars for April was the Xbox 360 in terms of unit sales, followed by the Nintendo 3DS. Plus, regardless of the whole PlayStation Network security breach the PlayStation 3 saw in increase in unit sales for April 2010.
Total hardware sales for April equaled a massive $930.7 million, up 21% from last year's April total of $771.5 million.
The Xbox 360 has been the top selling console in the United States for 10 out of the 11 past months and is the best selling console of 2011 according to Microsoft who promises to have a strong E3 showing later on in June.
Microsoft also boasts that the Xbox 360 sold 297,000 units in April and the total amount spent for those units reached $310 million, the highest among current gen consoles including the Wii and PlayStation 3.
They attribute such high sales to the consumer demand for the Kinect, Xbox's motion control peripheral, and say that sales for Kinect Sports has surpassed 3 million units worldwide. Plus, great games like Mortal Kombat, Portal 2, Crysis 2, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: The Masters, and Michael Jackson: The Experience, also helped push the Xbox 360 to the top, which is interesting as none of those titles are exclusive to the system.

Honestly,I don't care if X-Box 360 won ,more Play Station 3's sale world wide and P.S.P. too,also more people still buy the Play station 2.I am hoping I.B.M. will help Sony out to get out their financial hole.

All of the PS3 exclusives aren't good enough to have people run out and buy a PS3. SOCOM, Killzone, MK9/w Kratos...Really?? It's the overall price of the console that will make people buy. Xbox is the only console of the 3 that give the most for a price that even competes with the Wii, which they are practically giving away. So this isn't really a matter of which console is better. it's a matter which console give you the most for your money, that's what the consumer is always looking for when they spend.
Which is why 360 is owning 2011 right now. I know I know, like every year PS3 fans will start to list all of these great games that are coming out and will catapult the PS3 into the number one spot. But y'all been singing that song for the past 3 years, and it hasn't happened yet. Now with this PSN fiasco, they'll be lucky to even sell any PS3's this holiday season if they don't announce another price drop.

Consoles are at war? How is this even possible? Has anyone notified the local authorities? I don't want a bunch of waring consoles to come into my house and force me and my family to tend to their wounds at gun point. This is really serious and someone needs to stop this war. PLEASE!! I do not want to be forced to aid one side out of the fear of being executed.

While everything in this article is completely true, people need to keep in mind that PS3 is in reality dominating the sales charts (yes beating the 360). Notice that the the article says top selling in the US, but worldwide, PS3 has been the top selling platform between it and the 360 for the past few months, not to mention that the PSP has been selling just under the amount of the 360. So Sony is actually demolishing Microsoft in pure number of sales, almost doubling the amount of units (118 Million Units for Sony vs 53.7 million units for 360, including PSP and PS3). Now, the amount of profit that each company is actually making is something only the CFO's know over there. Oh and another side note, PS3 exclusives have also been demolishing 360 exclusives, partly because Microsoft doesn't have any. Like I said, the article is correct, but misleading in terms of rue competition in sales.

i wonder if you guys even read it says xbox is the most selling console 11 out of the 12 months. yea the psn was down dont mean crap. xbox has been top selling before this so it wouldnt of made much a difference. so sony fanboys get off microsofts testicles.

I don't think the PSN outage had much effect on PS3's April numbers, they still had pretty good year over year growth. May is the month to watch.

Long story short...
Both PS3 and XBox are great consoles
PS3 has more exclusives THIS year. Its a cycle and no it does not make you better than everybody else.
XBox is an overall "better" community gaming system with9 the incorporation of live ever since original xbox days. PSN may be free and may have been around to the 6 or 7 of you) on the PS1 but it took them longer to get their online gaming into full swing.
Plus I wish they all would merge to make the Wiistation420 - Hoof Hearted4 but then there would be no competition and everything would probably just go down hill. ^.^

I never understood the draw of the RROD360, when you could use that money for gaming PC. The games that are available on the RROD360 are also available on the PC. Plus you could do so many more things with a PC that a RROD360.

I own both but play the BOX more...most of the best games are available for both systems...so you can cry fanboy if you want...but it seems kind of ignorant to down Gears or God of War...without appreciating the things that they do well...Sony and Microsoft are both butt pirates...I like the interface of XBOX Live more and the controller...not surprised about this month's results
