Today, Namco Bandai announced the release date of Ace Combat: Assault Horizon for the 360 and the PS3. You'll be flying around in your airborn death machine on October 11, 2011.
According to Namco, the game "invigorates the franchise and brings intense action into the fore, with in-air acrobatics, counter-maneuvers and new destructive effects that show buildings shattering and aircrafts getting shredded to pieces." That all sounds like Win to me.
“Ace Combat is a beloved franchise and we’re excited to take the series into a whole new direction with more visceral and fast-paced action,” said Kazutoki Kono, Producer and Executive Director at Namco. “Players around the world will find an adventure that will keep them glued to the edge of their seat. They’ll feel their adrenaline pumping with every bullet, every explosion and every near-miss escape.”

ace combat 6 was really good too.. the online muitplayer is very intense... every one seems to know each other after awhile too.. you know who to avoid.. who to atatck.. when.. were.. who .. hwy.. what..

One of the best video game series ever made. There aren't many games I will buy blindly but Ace Combat is always at the top of my list of purchases. No one competes in the jet fighting genre with them, can't wait

I like everything they've talked about in the form of changes, except for one little thing.
There are sequeneces, wheither it be while targetting/aiming/whatever they havn't said much on it, that appear to turn the game into an on-rail shooter, where you no longer have full 360 degree control over your flight path.
It sure looks that way anyways.
It is shown in some of the videos, where they are flying through some tight/enclosed spaces while zoomed in and firing on a target flying in front of them.

I've always been a fan of the ace combat series and as long as there not trying to copy other ips which copied them then I feel that this game will be another solid hit in the gaming universe. I just wish the multi player was better. It just felt lagged and hacked. I would want to see more co op super boss fights, fly in and out of tunnels, you know just shooting the hell out of stuff with maybe two of your friends and then accidentally launching a missile into their back left engine. That would seem fun.

FINALLY! This is what im lookin for. Action and destruction. Why cant Modern Warfare have this type of online game play. and what would also be badass would be some crazy Naval/Submarine warfare. Not to give the impression that i dont like Modern Warfare, i really like those game as well. but this is new. something i cant wait to try.

It sounds almost like a Burnout-style Ace Combat (but a little more realistic), which would definitely be a day-1 buy for me.

I can't wait for this. If they truly made it more fast paced i'll be super happy. I've been waiting for a game to make me feel like i'm Maverick in Top Gun for well 25 years. :D

I remember playing this on the original Playtation, it was always fun to fly through the cities at Mach speeds.
