Hey, guys... remember the PlayStation Network? That was pretty awesome, wasn't it? I'm not bringing up the once-functioning network to rub internet-salt in the fresh wounds of PS3 users, though. I'm bringing it up to ask a question: Have any of you seen any fraud on your credit cards?
We received an email from a reader who told us that his card have been blocked by Bank of America, and that BoA is issuing new cards to all BoA customers. The second part isn't true, according to Bank of America. The customer service person I spoke to said BoA has no official policy regarding credit cards connected with the PlayStation Network, and no specific advice for PSN users who used a Bank of America card to sign up for the PSN (beyond the blanket: "our fraud prevention should automatically detect any fraudulent activity" and "if you're really worried about security, tell us and we'll issue you a new card"). I placed a call with the company's corporate office, just to make doubly-super-sure, and I'm awaiting a call back.
Either way, I wanted to know if anyone out there has had any actual, real world fallout from your information having been compromised.
Have you noticed an increase in phishing attempts? Had to cancel your card? Approached by strange men in overcoats in alleys trying to sell you a watch?
Personally, none of that has happened to me. I changed my passwords to be safe when this happened, and the card I've used with the PSN has expired, so I'm good there, too.
All of the best people are following Stephen Johnson's twitter feed. Also, email me if you wanna.

I Had a fraud issue with my bank card that I had attached to my ps3 system. I tried to use my debit card at a ATM and it said I had to call the fraud department. To make a long storry short, when I called up my bank they said that they notice a fraudulent transaction on my account from overseas and that it is related to customers that also use their cards on the playstation network The fraudualent company that showed up was called "gas csgastex.net" and the charge was for 34.99. Its horrible when you wanna go out on a saturday night and to find out that your debit card his blocked for fraud do to abnother companys negligence!

BOA just called me Tuesday and had me go pick up a new card due to a fraudulent charge on my account. It was only $40 though, and it's getting reversed. And my card was getting old and hard to use anyway, so they kinda did me a favor.

yeah i got signed up at 2 dating sites by someone using my email address. I got both cancelled and changed my email pass. nothing major though.

I haven't been impacted at all apart from PSN being down. No increase in e-mail, no credit card charges, no watch salesmen, nothing. I do feel sorry for the people getting charged with fraudulent purchases though.

I actually have had my email compromised, it advised me to change my password, which I did.
And then a day or two later I got word from my card company that there was a fraudlent transaction on my debit card in the United Kingdom. I had my card cancelled since then. To top it off, the transaction was computerized and could not be cancelled. So nearly 300 dollars got stolen from me. I am certainly not happy about it. I know I likely won't be using the PSN after they restore it. Not unless I get my money back.
I know this isn't a coincidence either because both these events happened in the same few days, same email and card attached to my PSN, and it's never happened before.

I have been receiving a ton of spam in my email. But other then that, everything seems to be okay.

Other than a noticable increase in email spam, I haven't seen any fallout of the PSN breach.

A week or two after the PSN Network went down. My Credit Card company called me asking me if I tried to purchase something in a Rite Aid in Manhattan for 250$. I live in California. They since have issued me a new card.

Haven't seen anything yet, plus i've always kept an eye on my credit cards and bank accounts using services such as Mint so no problems detected yet, and no increase in spam either. Just got to be vigilante, stay strong everyone!

That's actually what just happened to me. I tried to use my card that I rarely ever use and the transaction wouldn't go through so I called BofA and they told me that they put a hold on my card because of fraudulent transactions were trying occur on my card which they stopped.

Have not seen anything unusal as of yet, but my password to my email account and the one for the PSN are different. Plus I have spam blocker on it, but I get so much other jusnk I never open it unless I know it or had alrady signed up for it. As for the credit, my mother told me I had nothing to worry about you need at least good credit to be affected by it (HAHA mom!) just the same still watching my accounts.

Well I couldnt get into my yahoo email which has the same pass as my PSN because of this. Was shortly after they recommended we change out PSN passwords once its back up.

no problems here. what people need to understand is that credit fraud happens everyday to thousands of people, and its because their information was obtained by various means. im not saying the psn hacking should be counted out, but dont straight blame it on them. its very easy for your info to end up in the wrong hands.

Nothing has happened to me. I've set up email notices for when it is used to be safe.
