Reminder: Modern Warfare 2

Yesterday, we opined on the increasing likelihood of the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 in November. Today, Kotaku filled in some general game details on the not-announced game.

According to Kotaku's sources, MW 3 will continue Modern Warfare 2's story, exploring the aftermath of the invasion of the USA detailed in MW2. The involvement of other nations in the war could result in World War 3. According to the source, Modern Warfare 3 will have an urban setting, including "military vehicles, including tanks, rolling through suburban streets." Returning characters could include John "Soap" MacTavish and Captain John Price.

The main gameplay change will reportedly lie in the scope of the game. It's going to be huge, taking place on large, destructible urban maps. Hmmm... big maps and destructible environments. Those features are the hallmarks of the Battlefield games, and with the amazing-looking Battlefield 3 slated for a fall release, it's looking like a head-to-head battle between the two most 'core shooter game franchises on earth is heating up.

What kind of things would you like to see in the next MW game? If you had to choose either Battlefield 3 or the next Modern Warfare game, which one would you pick?

If treyarch makes MW3 i am definitely skipping on that crap. Black Ops failed in comparison to CoD4 and MW2. Especially visually. CoD4 looked better and that was 4 years ago.

MW3 Rumors? Let see... Beyond Bobby Kotick buying another private island after all the suckers buy it? Or that in less than 6 months after that they'll announce MW4: Paying for Bobby Kotick's Sins of the Flesh Pleasure Palace (to be built on Kotick Island).

Or hows about they make a few cosmetic changes, shorten the single player by another couple hours, over charge on the DLC, and release the same game again (but re-skinned).

If the COD multiplayer is subscription based, screw cod and activision. The story for Battlefield 3 looks much more interesting than black ops did. In my opinion, the story for black ops was much too campy and over the top. I want something intense, yet at the same time not out of reach. It just makes a game that much more enjoyable when you could actually picture yourself in the character's position.

Furthermore, I think that the Battlefield model for gameplay is much better if you just want to have fun and not worry too much about your K/D which is why i like the classes in Battlefield. Dont get me wrong- i love BO multiplayer. Great guns (most of them), fairly decent balancing and fun maps and wager matches. However in BO, its only fun if you're winning. Sometimes you just want to play a more cooperative game and relax, which is the style of gameplay that I get when I play Halo. Its just more enjoyable when you want to take it easy, which is why i play video games.

MW4 was easily the best. But im done with CoD. History dictates turrible titles by trearch. BF3 looks amazing, graphics, enviornment. Yet to see on gameplay but willing to give it a try!

idk which one to pick but the rumors about MW3 being Pay2Play for multiplayer may just turn me away from MW3. I pay enough for xbox live i dont need to play extra for a single game.

Sigh, destructible environments does not mean they copied battlefield.

Has anyone even heard of RedFaction2?

There are PLENTY of games that have characteristics of COD and BF that existed before either game were major sluggers in the gaming industry.

    Plus a few other things...

Don't complain about wanting change and then complain when they try and do it.

Don't go fan boy mode and argue which ones better when both are clearly great games that a few hundred thousand people enjoy on a regular basis.

Don't like Call of Duty? Then don't read related articles and go complain elsewhere. Its ok to express opinions but why not make them constructive rather than virtually yelling into empty space.

Why is does every new game need to be compared to another game? Each game is made individually without really giving two craps (ok... maybe one...) about the competition. Both BF and COD are first person shooters but have different core mechanics and gameplay. Choose one, but then shut up about it.

there should be a free-for-all game mode that consists of a random care package dropped randomly in the map every set amount of minutes and everyone has to fight for the care package. kind of like sabotage, but more intense.

Oh,also more gun attachments will be more better for players. For example, being able to make any of your guns semi-automatic,certain ammo burst amount,or fully automatic. Also MORE guns!!!!Include at least more primary guns, guns like in the Call of Duty:Black Ops game!!!

Well considering there is a new Infinity Ward working on this game, I can definitely see major changes in the general formula. But the make or break for me is if the subscription model for online play is true. But It seems almost idiotic if they're going head to head with Battlefield 3. I really don't know on this one. I know it won't be the same COD we've played before but will Kotick really risk a major loss of sales by making online a subscription based model? Only time will tell

Hey,I got some ideas. How about having vehicles to drive in multiplayer and helicopters that fly you into the battle zone for the start of the match, you go down the rope and start running to go kill some enemies. That would be freakin awesome!!!(it would make it look more realistic.)Oh,also when you won or lost the match, you run and get back on the helecopter and fly away.

Although Battlefield is superior to COD in every way, i'm actually interested in what they might do to the series now.

The unfortunate thing about this is MW3 will probably blow BF3 out of the water, sales wise. BF3 will be the superior game though. I still play BF2 on an almost daily basis! WAKE ISLAND 2007 ALL THE WAY!
