Yesterday, we opined on the increasing likelihood of the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 in November. Today, Kotaku filled in some general game details on the not-announced game.
According to Kotaku's sources, MW 3 will continue Modern Warfare 2's story, exploring the aftermath of the invasion of the USA detailed in MW2. The involvement of other nations in the war could result in World War 3. According to the source, Modern Warfare 3 will have an urban setting, including "military vehicles, including tanks, rolling through suburban streets." Returning characters could include John "Soap" MacTavish and Captain John Price.
The main gameplay change will reportedly lie in the scope of the game. It's going to be huge, taking place on large, destructible urban maps. Hmmm... big maps and destructible environments. Those features are the hallmarks of the Battlefield games, and with the amazing-looking Battlefield 3 slated for a fall release, it's looking like a head-to-head battle between the two most 'core shooter game franchises on earth is heating up.
What kind of things would you like to see in the next MW game? If you had to choose either Battlefield 3 or the next Modern Warfare game, which one would you pick?

IM GOING TO PICK UP MW3 FOR SURE I HOPE THE SAME PEOPLE THAT MADE MW2 MAKE MW3 CUZ BLACK OPS KIND OF SUCKS!

Seriously, another remake? I don't think I will want this very much just because I'm tired of CoD itself. All the games are pretty much remakes with a couple new features that were introduced into other games years ago. I'm definitely going to put my money towards BF3.

I'm getting tired of CoD. It's pretty much the same game every time. But now, instead of remaking another MW2, they're adding Battlefield qualities? I think my money will go towards BF3.

The call of duty series has been getting a lot of fame and is on of the top when it comes to online multiplayer. Because of this, lots of gamers, Cod fans or not, will expect a lot from modern warfare 3. That being said, MW3 has to bring a bigger and better experience than all the other games to live up to all the hype it's receiving. Do I believe that they can do it, of course, but then again. you've got millions of other cod fans to please with mw3

I'd probably choose BF3. I'm not really into CoD.

Hmm.... just to let you all know, BF3 is NOT BFBC. just thought i'd let you all know :) I am a hardcore BF fan but i am interested to see how MW handles it. They are usually a quick, action packed shooter. I'd like to see how they do in Battlefield's playing field. I will definitely rent both of them.

Hands down Battlefield 3!!! That's where my money is going! Monkey Fluff you Activision!!! EA provides a better product, I'm sorry of I offended you COD heads!

Ive never played any BF game. Ive only played Modern Warfare 2 and Black Ops and already I'm sick of COD. Not so much the game as the people who play it. So many noob ags who run and gun. I hear that BF has a lot more mature players and is made in such a way where you cant strive if you play like a dik. So I'll probably make the switch to BF3. But the MW3 single player campaign lasting for 20 minutes instead of 10.5 minutes is tempting.

I bought world at war as my first CoD game, I then bought modern warfare 2. When I played each, the only difference I noted between them were guns, setting, and graphics. I then proceeded to rent black-ops. It was practically the SAME GAME, just re-skinned. However, having played through Battlefield 2142, Bad Company, Bad Company 2, and Battlefield 2. I notice that every one provides a unique and enjoyable gaming experience! On top of that, the battlefield games focus on classes provides much cooperative gameplay, whereas in cod the only thing I relied on my teammates for were helping me get the score to win.

i cant say what ill do once the game is out. Will it be MW3 of BF3?....

this is one of the things i expected for MW3. but to truly thing that will make MW3 is a game with all out warfare. im talking game play in every major aspect of warfare such as tank and artillery warfare, ace-combat fighting, naval and submarine warfare, stealth missions and original game play along with the environmental destruction and it should be gore. i know it seem like a hell of a lot to ask for in a game but think about it, for a franchise that is losing its gamers, losing money, in controversy between infinity ward and its makers, all seems to like a make over the franchise needs. i wouldnt care if they would delay the game until summer next year. a new game like this would go head to head with Battlefield 3 and also lure back some fans they have lost and bring new players that will be playing Ace Combat Assault Horizon and maybe more. and who cares that now they puttin in the environmental destruction in MW3? im talkin to all those Battlefield fans hating on CoD. in real war all things take damage. i really like MW but what i really disliked was that it didnt have environmental destruction. seein people bombing the crap out of maps with AC130s and Stealth Bombers, Air Strikes, Harrier Attacks i always said its missing the destruction and damage building should have been taking.

As of yesterdays story.. battlefield 3 and I haven't played 1 or 2. Screw paying yet another video game monthly fee. Cause the economy is doin so good still. Let's burn a whole slowly in the other pocket. Do we not pay enough rediculous amounts of money for your continous lack luster COD/MW map packs. I mean how hard is it to use map creator? Really? Let's charge 15-20% of a game for 4 maps. Ya there's zombies but that's not why I buy maps. Its allo about multiplayer. And there's been a measly two, yes a sipping two map packs. The track record to me says MW fans shouldn't pay what we already do... basically MW is starbucks. Really over priced disappointing product that never quiet lives up to expectations. So again now charge me 5? Or even 3 bucks a month? Come on. Your losing a boat load of players already from side of the tracks. Before it even got there... one rumor of more money for this pile and we are all switching to battlefield 3. Ill put money somewhere else and give someone else to ruin my trust.

Can't wait for the 4 hour single player in this one!

Are they seriously going to completely rip off Battlefield???? There's no way they are going to be anywhere near as good at doing what DICE has been doing for years. I really hope this is the year that Battlefield takes the crown. I've been so sick of Call of Duty for a very long time now.

I don't like games that try to dominate the competition. For example, I hate that EA has taken over football for us. Now, we only have one option. I don't want it to be like that for the FPS war games. COD has dominated since MW and I think it is time to de-throne the champ. I hope BF3 comes along and knocks the f*$%ing crap out of COD. Then, maybe the next COD game will up its anti and the result is that us, as gamers, keep getting to play these games that push the bar. It truely is a win/win for the gamers.
Evildude666
and as always a buch of teens angry at society using nothing but gay and racial slurs....lame!
Luck702
BF3 as long as the campaign is really long and the multiplayer expands on the depth of bc2 and brings back the size of the battles. and bring back planes damn it!
I would however love to see call of duty try to get away from the linearity so many people are getting fatigued from. Everybody loves choices in combat styles :)
