Alan Wake

Remedy Entertainment, the people behind underrated survival horror game Alan Wake, say they're planning on bringing us more Wake... but it won't be "Alan Wake 2" and it won't be DLC. What does that even mean? In the Alan Wake-verse, mystery is always afoot.

"Fans of the franchise will be excited to learn that yes, more Wake is coming," Remedy told gaming blog Joystiq, "But to be absolutely certain to avoid confusion, this next Wake installment will not be Alan Wake 2. But neither will it be DLC. The rest we're saving for our official announcement when we'll actually SHOW YOU."

According to Remedy, part of their team has been working on the new Wake project for months, and it will "give more to the Wake fans out there, but just as importantly, this installment will also give an opportunity for players who aren't familiar with the franchise to finally jump on board."

As for when it will be released, Remedy says: "Release dates, platforms and pricing are unconfirmed as of yet, but Fall 2011 is probably a good guess."

Any other huge Alan Wake fans out there? I loved that game.

Oh come on, aren't all games repetitive in some way or another?

Original game? Maybe. Poor choice of console? Absolutely. Must pass unless they bring it to a better platform.

I urge everybody to play Alan Wake. It's a gorgeous, brilliant game. The reason people don't necessarily play it as much as a CoD is because people have no taste in good games and would rather become frustrated with a video game instead of enjoy it.

I love Alan Wake. Any continuation or expansion of its story would be great with me.

i didn't like alan wake actually. just didn't find it fun or engaging, and no i'm not part of the CoD crowd. the story and performances were pretty b-movie and the gameplay was pretty repetitive and weak..

Alan Wake was kind of a good game. The combat and repetitive forest after forest after forest environments got really stale but the atmosphere and the "things are going crazy" parts were awesome. It'll probably be a web series Mortal Kombat style

The most likely theory I've heard was them making a game about Thomas Zane

Nah, they will keep Alan Wake, he is the name of the game. You'll confuse new people by it being called Alan Wake but your playing as someone else and their not gonna change the name and risk the lose of Alan Wake fans who won't know it's the sequel. My guess is it will be a kinect game, prolly an on rails FPS with a flashlight mechanic same as Alan Wake but now motion controlled and an "action/shooter" would appeal to the wider audience they say they are going after.

The first Alan Wake broke 1 million sales, how is that "not selling well" ? That's pretty decent for a brand new franchise.

First Off what remedy means is that Alan Wake will be replaced by a new character. The game is set up like TV Shows and my best way of explaining it would be something like if you took the movie Vantage Point and instead of a movie with all the different main character stories it's all episodes of a TV Series.

I do doubt Alan Wake 2's Character will have any interaction with Wake or his story (might not even be the same state) but that's basically what's going to happen.

Now let me move on to my own thoughts.

I didn't care for Alan Wake. Not a single piece of it appealed to me. When it came out RDR also was released and I got RDR.

Fast forward to just a little bit before X-mas and I finally got a 360 Elite and it came with Alan Wake.

I'm maybe half way through if that and it's just a game that doesn't appeal to me. Parts of it I like, like the two Max Payne Manuscripts you pick up. But all in all I dislike it.

Grant it I'm not a fan of being scared by games (I scare somewhat easily because I immerse myself in the games) but I didn't care for the obscure vision I had in Alan Wake. I felt like I was straining my eyes to see anything that wasn't in light. Even the area around the edges of my screen. I found the actor's narration to be... bland and boring.

    Paraphrase Quote:
"When I reached the river bank something uncoiled in my head. I would have to cross the river to continue..."

    What?

So anyway Alan wake isn't for me. Good game, good graphics, somewhat interesting storyline to me but nothing to hook me.

People should definitely rent it because I feel it's a game you with get and love or you don't get it and you dislike.

I'm betting it'll be some kind of movie, or a prequel game of some sort? Maybe it's a game that happens in the same universe but focuses on a different character or is set in the far future, where Alan's actions have cause some kind of huge ripple effect through time.

Or maybe I'm just hoping someone will take a cue from the DeFoe series (The indie game series, has anyone else played it?)

I loved Alan Wake, it got a bit repeatative toward the end but I still really enjoyed the game.

So excited to hear this. The first game was a little rough and had some animation issues, but overall was a fantastic game. I am really looking forward to this, especially if they are use the new facial animation tech they talked about a couple months back.

I hated Alan Wake. By far the most repetitive game I've played in a long time. I know the game did not sell well, so I am sure they are making a downloadable title in the Wake universe to try and recoup some losses. I can almost guarantee it will be some sort of overhead shooter. If not, maybe it is episodic Alan Wake episodes for download. Who knows for sure, but I am pretty confident that are just trying to recoup some losses.

It is a shame because the game should have been great. I just couldn't take the repetition. The combat, the environments, the enemy encounters, etc. They were all so similar that the entire game just felt like one long level.

it will be called Alan Wake: Wake Alan, where the whole game turns out to be a dream, but a satisfying one.
