Activision, I am disappointed! I just finished listening to Activision's first-quarter financial call and the company did not announced a release date for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Instead, Activision head Bobby Kotick said the next Call of Duty initiative will be announced in "weeks" and will be accompanied by the biggest marketing campaign in the company's history. It will also be integrated with Project Beachhead, Activision's slightly mysterious digital content platform for Call of Duty.
I've also seen the huge "3" that is apparently featured in the next issue of UK's Official PlayStation Magazine (that's it, to the right), and read the rumors of a November 8 release date too. Putting all this together, I'm ready to make some predictions.
- Prediction 1: Modern Warfare 3 will be released in November for the 360, PS3 and PC. November 8, to be precise. I'm not going far out on a limb here: That's the second Tuesday in the month, and analogous to the release date of past Modern Warfare games. Every fall since 2003, a Call of Duty game has been released and it seems to be working out okay for Activision. Lately, Activision has been alternating between releasing a "numbered" game and a non-numbered game, this would be the year for a numbered game.
- Prediction 2: This release date information will be confirmed at E3 this year, between June 7 and 9. Kotick's statement about revealing more details in weeks leads me to believe this. It's not too out-there to speculate that Activision would make an announcement at the largest gaming show of the year.
- Prediction 3: You will have to pay for some aspects of multiplayer in Modern Warfare 3. According to Activision, Project Beachhead will be integrated into the next CoD game, which is presumed to be Modern Warfare 3. In the past, Activision has said that Project Beachhead will provide "premium, value added" content that is exclusive. According to industry analyst Michael Pachter and I, this means you'll be paying a fee to play Modern Warfare 3. How much you'll pay, and what you'll get for your subscription remains to be seen, but if I had to guess, I'd say some small fee (like $5 a month) will give you a lot of content -- maps, weapons, customization options and more. This will make it seem like a bargain and people will be happy to pay for it.
So what do you think of my predictions? Got any of your own?

Don't care, to me 2011 is the beginning of the end for the COD franchise if only. Also i kinda hope they do charge for online not because i would pay to play but it would ensure the death of the franchise and hopefully let developers create their own spin on multiplayer instead of giving their game a COD make over. *looks at crysis 2*

If Modern Warfare 3 is pay to play there is no way that I will buy it. I can get my fix with COD4, Modern Warfare 2, or Black Ops.

I wouldn't mind paying for Call of Duty. But unfortunately, they haven't put out a game that I actually felt was well balanced and had a unique amount of activities I couldn't fine elsewhere. I paid for Warcraft back in the day, because I wasn't able to get the sort of fun out of another game. It was unique, and nothing on the market was nearly as polished as Warcraft was.
But CoD? I get tired of the Ghost/Famas campers. I get tired of the HORRIBLE hit detection. I get tired of the amazingly terrible sniping from BO. But I still play it, because it's fun, and the online game play is free (after initial purchase, of course). In spite of all of it's faults (such as all the issues with Black Ops to the hacked lobbies in MW and MW2) I still play almost each day. But if they asked me to pay for it? Not a chance. They would have to put some MAJOR effort in to the game and the support and community that I don't see them having the energy for. Funny thing is that if 3Arc were to come out with a pay-to-play game, I would probably buy in. They would need to fix the hit detection etc, but they had GREAT community support. They listened and responded to the people that spoke to them about their issues.
Long story short is that if they expect me to pay for the game, they are going to have to do something to show me that they are going to dedicate themselves to making MY playing experience better. Short of that, they wouldn't be getting my cash, and Battlefield 3 will become my war sim shooter of choice.

im not paying for any COD anything.. enough is enough..

I'd be excited to get the old Infinity Ward's third take on the MW story; but, I just can't see it being worth the interest if another development team tries their hands at the characters. That's the biggest loss of the COD MW series...we're never going to get a chance to finish off Makarov :-(

I hope people realize that they are talking about "Call of Duty Online." If you listened to the press confrence they did not say one word about the next console Call of Duty-- but a CoD online that as of now is strictly for China development. I really hope this guy can get his facts right before he writes an article. You will have to pay to play CoD online.. Not the next console CoD (MW3) I hope this clarified a few things.

People, use your heads, do not waste your money on Crap of Duty. Use it wisely on the other titles that are going to amazing or should be good enough to be worth your spending: Gears of War 3, Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Battlefield 3, The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, Rage, Uncharted 3, Resistance 3, Brink, Mass Effect 3 (even though it is not considered this year, but next), L.A. Noire, Portal 2, Infamous 2, Batman: Arkham City, Dead Island(considered a looks pretty good, until proven more).
There you have it, a list of must haves and possibles that should be more worth your attention than Activision's cash cow!

Well I'm not buying it no matter what. Same game different wrapper. Just like the rest.. Only you have to pay extra now. I don't see this working out.
youdntknome
ALSO the game should be at least ten bucks cheaper

I would only be willing to pay if the subscription service was 50 cents a month or at the MOST $1. Anything above that can suck on some sack

I really hope (and believe) they are stupid enough to try the pay to play business model. Maybe then we can finally kill the stale franchise and get some risk, innovation, and experimentation in the FPS genre.

$5 a month for PSN would be ok since online is free, but it's still expensive. But for Xbox it should be free considering there's already a fee to play online.
Either way, I don't see this "Project Beachhead" being successful.

It's Call of Duty, it's a New Year.
yep It's definitely coming out...

This game will FAIL

I'm expecting some gameplay during the Eastern Conference playoffs of the NBA. That's when they've shown full gameplay videos for the last two years, so it would make sense.

The only way I see MW3 not coming out in November (from what I recall Infinity Ward was going to do the MP and some other company was going to do the SP or vice versa) is because of litigation because not only is it disputed about Modern Warfare being owned by Z and West but the agreement actually was that they couldn't make anything past Vietnam without the two.
As for a Fee to play Multiplayer... won't happen in my house.
Here is what Activision would have to do to sell a Paid MP.
Drop the game down to 40 bucks (including SP which hasn't been worth a darn since MW1) and give people a free 2 or 3 months.
Or keep the game at 60 bucks with MP and SP and also give me 8 Months Free. Because everyone knows when you buy Call of Duty games it isn't to play Single Player.
(except for that fat annoying 17 year old nerd kid who said to the GameStop employee by my house, "Yeah I was so disappointed in Black Ops. I beat it the same night I got it...")
But I'd love for Call of Duty to go subscription service... I mean that way the Brand will Die and Greed will be the culprit.
Although they'd prolly just do a stupid 'Premium Plus' membership like PSN+ that would also be horrible.
pwnography
Here is what I think will happen. It will be released this November. There will either be a fee, or you will get a code for the multiplayer. (Exactly what Homefront and Dead Space 2 did)
I personally don't plan to buy MW3 but if it does one of those two things I just posted, the game will fail.

I swear to God I will quit gaming if people give more money to Activision for Call of Duty. Are you people dense? They are giving you the same exact game over and over and over again and you keep buying it! And now they MAY want you to pay extra for the same game that they are now going to sell you again, for the 5th time, and you are going to pay it!?
That is so beyond sad I don't even know a proper word for it...
GamebustaZX
I dont care im not buying another pile if Sht its gonna come out and then you will have people on youtube breaking the game as always unless I hear some really really good things about this game im not buying it I will be playing battlefield 3 thank you very much
gerbg229
If Activision decides to whip out p2p multiplayer, im not sure if i will pay for it. I enjoy CoD MP but i dont know how much a enjoy it. Also, i can see a lot of hardcore gamers and older, wiser gamers not paying. But im certain that all the little 8y.o. kids will still be on, so maybe this isnt a bad thing totally LOL... I dont know we'll have to wait and see Activision plays this one, but i hope for NO p2p!
