Morning Hangover #71 -- Andrew Looks For Feedback, Patrick Has TV Envy

Yes, it's nearly time for this week's episode of Feedback! Right now, Feedback is like an angry, hungry baby, and it needs your questions for sustenance. So if you want to ask us anything about Brink, let us know. Especially questions that are of the "Just what the heck is Brink?" variety. We're all poised to answer those. Also, you are probably starting to have things you want to know about E3 making you feel funny in your bathing suit area. That's just fine, and a side effect that will go away. Ask us those questions as well, and then tune in later this week to see if we use your question on the show!

What happened to the D20 from several episodes back. It made an appearance, but now all we get is the rubberband ball. Do think it added too much geekyness to the show? Fun fact that dice is not randomized properly, teens to twenty on top and lower ones on the bottom. If rolled correctly it can be hard to fail ;)

I noticed that the opening to Brink looked very much like a movie. Do you think that movies and video games will continue to blend styles or will they diverge more over time?

On last week's Feedback, the subject of arcades in America (and the lack thereof) came up ... I was wondering how the panel felt about public libraries stepping up and providing a new potential alternative to that bygone institution.

Believe it or not, there is a movement within the librarian profession to embrace gaming and provide patrons with a social gaming experience like the arcade days of yore; of course, not everyone embraces the concept (search Google for "Our Public Libraries Are Being Turned Into Video Arcades" for a dissenting viewpoint on the matter), but a growing number of people within the profession believe that it's the library's duty to provide their patrons with the content that they are most interested in (just like novels and movies were once "shunned" by public libraries, so too are video games being slowly accepted as "legitmate" forms of lending materials).

I'm curious if anyone on the panel has been to a "gaming night" conducted at their local public library, and whether or not they feel that such experiences can - somewhat - rekindle those old feelings of the arcade experience (shushing librarians not included!)?

I know we don't know anything about MW3(Modern Warfare), but do you think it's going to be an interesting holiday for the FPS? And were does Gears of War 3 stand in all of this everyone is talking MW3 and Battlefield 3(the year of the 3)? For my two cents my money is going to Battlefield 3 to me a better product and they seem to release without major gameplay bugs unlike the COD franchise that is borderline unplayable until they get a patch out. Thanks

This is more a request than a question. Can you get Len Wiseman to come on an episode of Feedback to discuss what happened to the Gears of War movie? If he won't come on then can you at least discuss the issue yourselves?

So I know the gaming/g4 community seems to be split when it comes to Brink but I think we can all agree on at least 1 great thing that Brink has done. Custom Mapping of controls. Why is it that PC gamers have full control customization while console players only have (if they have it at all) the choice between a few presets controls? I can't see how this is a negative because as I assume you know about a petition that has circulated around the gaming community about gamers who have disabilities and have asked game companies to implement some type of custom controls mapping. I always say this as a win win: disabled gamers can know play games with more efficacy while other gamers can change the control scheme to better suit there preferences.

Also, if this does happen to make it on feedback Adam my name if pronounced fee'sh and which was an old nickname.

I personally am a "Sony Guy", so yes, the attacks on PSN/SOE affect me. That said, do you think that Nintendo and Microsoft will change their E3 game-plans to capitalize on Sony's current situation, or will they stick with their original plans?

Hey Xplay, I have been reading a lot on Brink and have been following it since last year at E3. The problem I having is that I can't decide if Brink is really worth to buy, I really love the full customizations it gives the player, and the SMART running system is one of the most unique additions I have seen in a recent shooter. When put against the bad AI though and other factors; I can't decide to buy or not! Please help, whats your advice on this?

    I have two questions.
Bethesda is one of my favorite video game developers their products always seem to have a mark of quality. But lately the games they publish have been trash. Wet, Rogue warrior, and now brink. I was wondering if you guys could shed some light of what the relationship is between the dev team and publishing aspect. It just seems crazy that there is such a gap between some of the best experiences on consoles and then the worst, (rogue warrior)
My second question is about demos. Are you skeptical of games that come out in 2011 that don't have demos? Are they hiding something?

We've all seen videos of people failing at Parkour. Will Brink feature characters screwing up their Parkour moves and hurting themselves or is every character in the game perfect at pulling off tricky moves?

What sets Brink apart from the other multitude of shooters out there? Why would I need to buy it if I already have MAG, Socom 4, and Crysis 2?

What are the chances that Feedback will *actually* be available on iTunes this week, seeing as how we never got last week's episode? (Hey, it's a legitimate question, snarky though it may be.)

I am a single console man. I own a PS3 exclusively (just due to cheapness) and if I didn't have so many single player games left to finish, I would be horrified at the PSN security failure.

Anyway, question: The PSN hackers don't seem to be done with Sony. Do you think this "war" could go on so long that they financially cripple Sony, or at the very least get people fired? This is a major blunder and it not only makes Sony look bad, but it makes consumers look foolish for sticking with Sony products

Considering that Brink plays most heavily on the design of Team Fortress 2 do you think the full 50-60 dollar price tag is justified or is this just another failed attempt to marry co-op, mp, and sp in one game? Or, is this something else entirely that falls into neither of those two categories?

What I'd like to know is how does the "SMART" feature work? Is it all they said it would be, and how do you rate the environment interaction with it? From what I've seen of the demos it looks cool but does it make the game play better or do the movements distract from what you are trying to do? And most importantly, I loved the Assassins Creed games but they all had a fatal flaw (IMO) with the free running is it any better in Brink? Do you go running one direction and hit the button then suddenly run up the wall next to you, or get tripped up on a 2 inch piece of stone sticking out of the ground?

tl;dr Tell me how the "SMART" feature kicks ass, and if it's better then the free running in Assassins Creed please!!

Do you think games nowadays are too long?
As a gamer and consumer, this is an issue I'm conflicted about. On the one hand, if I'm going to spend money on anything, I want to get the most bang for my buck. Games like Fallout have vast playability compared to others, etc. But there is also something to be said about adding additional playability to the game simply for the sake of extending the experience.
For example, I was recently playing Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and I felt that the game was just too long. It dilutes the experience and is no longer satisfying or fun. Again, I also understand getting the most for your money. I also think that the action-adventure genre lends itself well to this issue, since its relatively simple to just add more levels, etc.
    What do you guys think?
