The last Activision/Blizzard financial call was back in February and it was there that President of Blizzard, Mike Morhaime, said for us to expect more Diablo 3 news and more importantly to expect more information regarding a Diablo 3 beta test during the next financial call which is happening a little later today. Diablo 3 has been in development for 10 years and is the sequel to Diablo 2, Blizzard's famously popular top-down action role playing game.
There have been a lot of rumors surrounding Diablo 3, mainly discussing whether or not the game will come out on consoles. So, Blizzard might also confirm or deny a console release during the conference call today as well. Regardless, we've found a very interesting Tweet from the developer via their Diablo account:
5,911 points, neat, but that is also today's date if you break it down to 5-9-11. Also, it's nothing new that Blizzard would announce something as huge as the Diablo 3 beta date during the call today. The company has previously announced the StarCraft 2 beta test, the plans for World of Warcraft charity pets, and revealed the dates for their Blizzard-themed convention Blizzcon. Blizzard takes advantage of the call to use it as a marketing platform and boost interest for their products probably to keep stockholders happy.
In any event, I'm stoked for this supposed announcement and will let you know all of the Diablo 3 information that comes out of the call as soon as possible.
