According to Rockstar, upcoming open-world crime game L.A. Noire will ship on three discs for the Xbox 360.
"L.A. Noire was always going to be a massive game, from the size and detail of the world to the length of the cases, and of course, the sheer amount of MotionScan data required for the faces of over 400 actors in-game," Jeronimo Barrera of Rockstar told Kotaku, "To tell the story and make the game we wanted to make, we knew that it was going to take an entire single layer Blu-ray disc and three Xbox discs."
Lest you think you'll constantly be getting off your couch a hundred times to switch discs, Rockstar says that you'll only have to swap out DVDs twice, and they happen at "natural breaks between cases."
"Since the game is built around the concept of progressing through individual cases from desk to desk, players on Xbox will find disc-swapping is hassle-free," Barrera said.
Before you start imagining that L.A. Noire will be three times as long as Rockstar's single-disc Grand Theft Auto 4 or Red Dead Redemption, keep in mind: One of the main features of Noire is the facial-video technology. Basically, the cut scenes are meant to be more detailed than any other game I've ever heard of, and that, no doubt, will take a whole of disc space. Speaking of disc space, that Blu-Ray on the PS3 is seeming pretty useful right about now, eh?
While Nikole "Zipper" Zivalich says she hates switching discs, I feel it's a nostalgic trip back in time to my youth of playing PC games, some of which came on like 8 floppies that had to be switched constantly. What do you think?

Switching a million times?! I've had more problems switching bluray disk that have special features on another disk (Matrix collection, firefly, weeds, etc.) than any game I've played.
If you're able to play 20+ hrs that it takes till you have to switch any multi disk game, god bless you!
I never played multi disk pc games, but I've played MANY PS1 multi disk games. Even then they weren't a hassle. The one and only that I had a BIG problem with was Fear Effect, wow that was tedious.
Stop hating on something you can't see the whole picture of. :)

There is nothing wrong with having 3 discs, I just hate switching because to me it's so old school, but none of this really matters I pre-order for the PS3 because its getting a exclusive case.

I've been told I need to get up and exercise. I think this'll add another 7.2 seconds to my one-minute-a-week regimen. There is no problem with switching disks. I prefer 7 seconds to a 15 minute mandatory download.

Will in business term, it mean it cost most for the additional CD, cost more for shipping and also believe there is a storage space cost for warehouse and retail store. So in the end the different in the game with mult discs and single disc is for a example $1 and they both sell the same price. So if both Mult disc and single disc sell for a million copy, the different in profit is $1,000,000.

Lol. The 360 is outdated trash and this just proves it. It'll be like a record player always asking to 'switch to side B'. Dumb kids, it's unfortunate they got the worst system of the 3 this gen. Hopefully next time they or their parents will be better informed.

How is disc switching bad? Good for bathroom break or simple taking a small break. I find no fault when Mass Effect 2 came out in two discs. In fact it did not feel like a chore like people perceive it as some bad thing for gaming. It's not like the disc switching are required every single hour. I guess the fanboys of Sony have something to talk about since PSN is still down and they have to continuously look for any credit card fraudulent charges hoping and praying they haven't gotten identity theft.
FYI: I have pre-ordered LA Noire for PS3. My identity is safe due to all the stuff on PSN are all an alias and thankfully taken my Credit Card info out of there and just bought PSN cards at gamestop and best buy. Feel sorry for all the people who got their stuff stolen.

I would rather switch a disk then sit threw another installing screen for twenty minuets on the playstation 3, I never had a problem on it for the PS2.

Most PS3 games aren't offered in 1080p which is crap. So three disks in high quality is ok with me.

Mandatory instalation = 20-50 minutes, depending on the game.
The advantages of the Blu-Ray format are uncanny..........
