Want to play Battlefield 3 on your Nintendo 3DS or Mass Effect 3 on your iPad? Looks like you'll be able to later this year and early next year. During EA's financial earnings call today, they released a chart full of future releases, and two entries caught our eye: Battlefield 3 handheld/mobile, and Mass Effect 3 handheld/mobile. EA is definitely a fan of the handheld and digital download market, with handheld revenue up 25% over the last year, and digital revenue turning in a record-breaking $844 million dollar profit, up 46% from last year.
Even though Mass Effect Galaxy and Battlefield: Bad Company 2, both for the iPhone, had lackluster editions, EA will probably keep pumping out mobile versions of tentpole titles like these if it means continued profit growth. Here's hoping they can marry quality development with the mobile experience eventually. Galaxy featured great dialogue sequences that matched the game, but the rest of the game failed to impress.
Are we that far away from quality handheld games that can continue or enhance the console experience?
