Madden NFL 12 will launch regardless of the status of the NFL. EA has already factored in the NFL lockout keeping this season of football from taking place. They are bracing for the worst and have already set their projected earnings down 1/3 at 85-90$ million dollars. Madden NFL 12 is set to release on August 30 across all the major platforms.
If the NFL lockout isn't resolved, will you still play Madden?

I didn't buy any sports games last year, so I was hoping Madden 12 would be an update worthy of a purchase. But from what I can tell from the recent gameplay trailer, everything looks pretty much the way it always does. EA needs to start juggling its sports franchises between two capable studios each year and not leave everything up to Tiburon. A two year development cycle could give them the time to overhaul the graphics and animations and finally make some improvements to the barebones Franchise and Be A Pro modes that haven't seen even a small change in 3 or 4 years.

So another 60 dollar game thats worth as much as it's predecessor. It is sad that us football fans have nothing too special to look forward to this year.

@DPsx7 is there anything a waste of human life like you doesn't Troll other then PS3?... You want EA to try something new? What does that mean?... you want them to try new Sports? Like Soccer, Hockey, Basketball, Boxing, Baseball or Golf? Or Sports they haven't done like Curling, Bad-mitten, Four Square? Or do you mean focus on Non-Sports games? Like... Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Battlefield, The Sims, Dead Space and Pogo.com?
@Infinius I agree they should do something like that. In fact if there isn't a 2011 Season I can't think of any reason to release a 2012 Madden regardless of if there is a 2011 Season and so this upcoming game might be a perfect time to do something like that.
The problem is Technology is constantly evolving and so Madden gets to use all these cutting edge things to make it more realistic. Tackles are more realistic, player movements and traditions are more authentic and everything. Also Madden is pretty different every year. Whether they are adding new features or removing features there is always a difference between the games year to year.
A second problem with that idea is you then Eliminate the Fanfare you get every year when you release Madden. I'm sure it's believed that if you have Madden Releases only once every two years then it'll have a negative effect on perception or sales.
So yeah...

I don't understand why EA doesn't do hat they promised years ago. Release one game, and update rosters and stats via DLC. I can see Madden being worth $60 every few years, and $20 a year for the current year's update.
Lock out or not, this years Madden or last years what's the real difference?

I don't understand why this junk sells year after year. The game doesn't change, it's not worth $60. Maybe if they finally cancel some sports we can save some money instead of wasting it on those greedy athletes and then EA can maybe try something NEW for a change.

Wait... The game releases before the season starts. Before Spring Training games too I think... So people will still buy the game.
Additionally whether a season takes place should hurt NEXT Years game, not this years because if you think about it, people will want their NFL fix and are mote likely to buy Madden because of that rather then not wanting to play Madden because it's not realistic (as in the season happening).
I would predict that no NFL would increase Madden Sales and NCAA Football viewership (Go Buckeyes!).
And yeah whoever this player is, peyton or heyton or something... He said he didn't believe in the curse... Well if the season doesn't happen than I'm chucking it up to both the curse and the fact that this guy disrespected the curse!

How can one entity both be a monopoly and pro-union? That's just unfair.
I think everyone on the planet agrees that football players make enough money already. So, here's what we should do. Since the NFL has a government-approved monopoly on televised football, and Madden/EA Sports has exclusivity on NFL games, I postulate that the taxpayers own Madden. Therefore, all Madden profits will go toward the national debt. Okay, now it gets complicated. Social Security will be dissolved into "NFL bucks," which will be used to buy tickets, jerseys, etc. The NFL will have the sole ability to transfer these into USD. This would, basically, force today's football players into indentured servitude to receive actual money. If the lockout occurs, players will be stuck with Monopoly money. Their pay cuts will be fed back into the eager hands of the elderly SocSec beneficiaries, and problem solved.
