Morning Hangover #71 -- Andrew Looks For Feedback, Patrick Has TV Envy

Join the Feedback crew next Wednesday as we welcome special industry guest Jesse Divnich! Jesse spends his days as vice-president at Electronic Entertainment Design and Research, thinking about the future and analyzing video game trends. At night, we imagine he plays a fair share of video games as well. He'll be our guest in-studio as we speculate and prognosticate on the industry. Want to chip in? You can!

Ask us questions about the past, present and future of gaming, and we'll pose them to Jesse. Want to know if motion gaming is a fad or here to stay? We'll put it to him. Need the info on possible future hardware releases? He's your guy. Wondering about what the PlayStation Network outage might mean long-term for Sony? That's a softball. Kingdom Hearts 3 release date? He's probably not going to be able to field that one.

We'll think up some more questions, in addition to those, but we want your queries as well. This is Feedback after all, where we want to put you in the picture. Just hit us in the comments below, and look for your question to be read on-air next week!

This is a fun question to/for Sessler:

How come MLG isn't being aired on X-play? or on G4 for that matter? If you want gaming to really 'jump through the portal' don't you think airing it Live like any other sport would be nothing but a positive step?
    Think about it..

    a few questions for Jesse:

    1) What does he see through all of the rumors for the successor to the Wii? Even though you sort of talked about it last time it would be interesting to hear form him as well.

    2) Are we going to continue to see companies dust off titles from the last generation and resell them as HD or is that going to fizzle out? I want to buy the Prince of Persia Trilogy, but thing like a Ratchet and Clank set would be a beautiful thing.

    3) Do you think we will see more original games in the next year or two? I feel like a few franchises might be about ready to run out of stamina. New IP's would be a blessing, I just cannot tell how the market is going. (not necessarily PSN/Xbox arcade titles here)

Why dose the Kingdom hearts series have to be on so many diffrent systems. It makes it harder on the consumer that would like to play thorugh the entire story. In order to play every game in this franchise you would have to buy a new console. Is this a necessary marketing strategy for games such as this one?

    This is a multi-part question

    a) Sony: What the F?
    b) Do you think the great PSN blackout of 2011 is a great opportunity for Sony to say "You know what? this is why we can't have free things anymore." and go to a payment plan for ALL players?
    c) How hard do you think it was for Microsoft to hold back their laughter at this massive breach of security?

I have seen a recent trend in gaming that is becoming more prevalent, studios are working with each other in game development. This is probably something that has been happening since gaming started, but it wasn't something that I have heard much of until recently; some examples I have seen recently are Bulletstorm (Epic & People Can Fly), Medal of Honor (Danger Close & Dice) , and possibly Mass Effect 3. I read in an interview somewhere that Bioware wasn't really happy with the targeting and inventory system with ME2 and they were looking in to using the Dead Space inventory and combat system in ME3, so this would mean they could be working with Visceral to some extent. So my question is where do you think the future of cross studio developed games will lead? Is it a good thing for gaming, or a bad thing? I would also like to point out that most of the cross developed games I have heard about are coming from under the EA banner. Why do you think that is did they just decide to do it or are they using it as a draw for customers to help sway them into buying their games instead of another game company's?

Since the big thing in video game news is the PSN being hacked and how Sony has handled the situation, my question is how will this situation affect the future of how video games and their hardware is made. Especially the online component both market place with the PSN and the online-multiplayer/co-op side of it as well were we must register for an account and use credit card information to purchase things?

Do you see this incident as a reminder for future developers of the consequences of not securing your information as inadequately as Sony has? Could we potentially be using just the pre-paid PSN Cards or other similar items in place of credit cards to help better protect ourselves? What are you thoughts?

What does EA Sports Football Class Action Lawsuit have to do with me or anybody else bought a EA Sports football game from August 2005 to present day?

What's your assessment of the state of romance in video games? We've got Bioware pushing boundaries in terms of what sort of options are available to you, but does it matter when an in-game kiss looks as hokey now as it did five years ago?
Side question: what is your favorite video game romance?

What makes someone a True Gamer? What do people actually do to have the label of Gamer, whether it be hardcore or not. I blogged about this before and got different responses, so I wanted to know what the experts say :D

Watching your show, and hearing my friend talk about games, has made me think about what makes someone a hardcore or casual gamer. Are we as gamers conditioned to tolerate certain things? What i mean is when it comes to certain mechanic in a game we as gamers do not think anything of it, while non/casual gamer would say the same mechanic being trvial or boring. And how does games like mario bridge the gap ?
