Bioshock: Infinite Multiplayer? Job Listing Hints At It

BioShock Infinite Gameplay Video Coming September 21

Back in August, Bioshock creator Ken Levine had this to say about the possibility of multiplayer in upcoming threequel Bioshock: Infinite: "It's what we said about BioShock One: We have not made any determinations about multiplayer." A recent job listing on Gamasutra suggests Levine may have made the decision.  The help-wanted ad is looking for an online engineer to help implement server-side support to create "user experiences that are new to console gaming."

While the listing doesn't get into specifics, the ad says Irrational Games is looking for "exceptional individuals to expand our Online Infrastructure team, where our mandate is to leverage online connectivity to deliver added value and groundbreaking experiences to gamers worldwide, both at launch and over time."

That smells a lot like a multiplayer plan to me, although it's far from confirmed. As for what that multiplayer would look like and how it would work, we just don't know yet, but Ken Levine's thoughts on potential multiplayer for Infinite suggest it will at least be different.

"We are never interested in making a multiplayer mode you could just play in some other game," Levine said. "Because, A) that's not creatively interesting and B), financially, you're wasting your time. They're going to go play Halo. They're going to go play Call of Duty."
