PlayStation Network PSN

In the process of assuring gamers that their trophies and friends lists are safe, Sony also let gamers know that they are considering a "goodwill gesture" for gamers who have been inconvenienced by the PSN being down. In other words: You PSN users are probably going to get a present.

Here's the company's words:

Q: Will there be a goodwill gesture for the time we haven’t been able to utilize PSN/Qriocity?

A: We are currently evaluating ways to show appreciation for your extraordinary patience as we work to get these services back online.

I don't know if you can consider it "extraordinary patience," Sony. After all, it's not like PSN users have any choice, but still, it's an interesting proposition: What, if anything, do you think Sony should give its gamers? I posed the question to G4's email list and received the following responses:

"I want a full refund on my PS3."

--Kevin Kelly, mad prophet of the Internet

"I want David Jaffe to come to my house so he and I can reenact the pottery scene from Ghost."

-- Blair Herter, contestant, MTV's Road Rules

"What I DON’T want is 'free' HOME furniture.  Although, a grand piano would look snazzy in my virtual pad."

-- Will Jang, huge pianist

"I'd be shocked if Sony didn't give away a year of PlayStation Plus to every subscriber.  That way they give something of value, which includes lots of free games and access, plus it retains users who will be asked to re-purchase in a year."

--Eric Eckstein, internationally recognized video gaming expert, bespectacled

"They should give each user a free DLG, something in the $15 area."

--Blain Howard, terribly handsome man

"I want any financial compensation in the form of Microsoft point cards."

--Courtney Kraft, LARPer, Xbot

"I just wanna get wasted and [REDACTED] [REDACTED]."

-- John Walsh, America's Sweetheart

"A free year of Xbox Live."

--Doug Baughman, VIP, PhD, PYT

"For a PSN+ subscriber like myself, I would love to see a couple extra free games thrown in next month and some deep discounts on DLC. A good sale on some of the bigger titles would help bring customers back."

--J.P. Shub, Rocker and/or Roller

"The Webmaster would like a pony."

-- The Webmaster, Webmaster

What do you guys want from Sony? What do you think you deserve? Answer in our comment section.

To the people wanting a "goodwill". Get a life you punks. PSN is a "Goodwill" from sony. Unlike X-box you DO NOT pay for the service they provide (apart from the paying of the expansions via the store). It's a nice sunny day so get out there and stop looking like vampires.

Bonesaw, this is what I posted last week on this topic.

If I was a PSN user, these are a few things I would want.

    1. Assured Compensation for any monies lost, any credit ruined, or anything of that sort, brought on by them (Sony), breaking there end of the user-agreement by allowing your personal information to be made public. (I would also ask the same of MS or Nintendo if this sort of thing happened)

    2. A bonus gift with some value to keep you coming back to PSN in the future.

You made a mistake, you corrected it. I hope Sony does at least what I have said.

Fuzzo you are correct. I guess I was so upset that I got a little carried away with my zeros. Thank you for not blasting me for the mistake. I really do feel all of the 77 million registered users should get some sort of monetary compensation considering how much time and in some cases money it would take to correct issues with your credit resulting from identity theft.

You must remember that the grand total would be $77Million-Million. I am no mathematician but in my opinion that is more than Sony is valued at. This would be $77,000,000,000,000.00

Well, lets see. Sony has 77 million registered users. A 1 million dollar check for each user should be mandatory through the legal system. Sony spends more than that on blockbuster games they develop. And that is far less than the revenue they take in a year. Since I am not as greedy as Sony I will settle for 100 thousand per registered user. At this point I am ready to trade in my PS3 because Sony is slow at releasing information. I am really upset by this happening right after buying Portal 2, because I felt they would have had the best version. Good thing I did not open it and took it back to Gamestop and swapped it for the 360 version. By the way anyone out there that heard about Sony's network issues before buying Portal 2 and were going to wait for the restoration of PSN, Gamestop, as of Saturday has the 360 version of Portal 2 on sale. I recieved $22 in cash after swapping Portal 2 PS3, for Portal 2 360. Hope that helps someone who was on the fence. Thanks for listening to my rants and raves. Game On!!!

To the people who want free downloads, I don't think that is up to Sony to do such a thing. The individual game companies own rights to the DLC and Sony would have to get permission from EVERYONE.

But the service is free, so how can anyone "demand" anything in the first place? Really, the only thing they should offer are free credit checks and monitoring for 5 years for people that are paranoid about stuff like that. I can't believe people are so shallow as to want something more despite already being given something.

I don't think what Sony is giving us is fair. We all know that the free downloads are going to be some crap no one wants or cares about. I think they should give us a half-hour of free downloads the first time we log in once the PSN Store is back up. I mean wouldn't that be better than 3o free days of PS+?

the user names, credit cards, addresses, and any other personal information of the hacker(s) so we can force them to change all their stuff....or we can sell it on the black market too!

also.... bring back Other OS for Linux users (since i have a feeling all this stems from Sony blowing off that community!)

and.... explain why my $700 Gun Metal PS3 system can makes virtual PS2 cards but cannot play the games! (on THAT topic...read AND write for the PS1/2 Card USB converter)

    i hope Sony reads this!

Marcus misses me badly (psn home reference)

I don't care about getting something Free in this. Too me the people who are all "oh boo hoo I can't play CoD" or "I can't play with my "friends" no more" and my favorite "Screw Son I'm gonna buy an X-box." are just selfish brats that need to shut up and get more then a muscular right arm (or left if you are a lefty) because if your parents croaked and you are still in their basement you are screwed buddie.

I wonder if many realize that PlayStation Plus is an auto renewal system. I probably won't be renewing with that though I loved the betas that were offered but I just don't have enough time to take part of the free games and reduced cost items.
