SOE Offering

In the wake of Sony's PlayStation Network outage, Sony Online Entertainment is already gifting affected gamers some rewards, and they have more plans in the works. From a statement we received yesterday:

"We apologize for any inconvenience players may have experienced as a result of the recent service interruption. As a global leader in online gaming, SOE is committed to delivering stable and entertaining games for players of all ages. To thank players for their patience, we will be hosting special events this weekend across our game portfolio, including a Double Station Cash day on Saturday, April 30th. We are also working on a “make good” plan for players of the PS3 versions of DC Universe Online and Free Realms. Details will be available soon on the individual game websites and forums."

Double Station Cash days allow you to redeem purchased Station Cash credits for double their face value, which you can use in games like Free Realms, Everquest, and Everquest II. It's nice to know that they plan to make good for the PS3 users affected by this outage as well. It will probably be awhile until we find out what that plan is, but it's a nice gesture on SOE's behalf.

What about us Mortal Kombat and Call of Duty players? I couldn't give a fk less about DC or Evercrack, MK and CoD are pretty much the only games I play right now, and it's psn me off I haven't even gotten to play MK online since I bought it.

Not to mention I am a Playstation Plus subscriber. How are they going to make up for the loss of service I've already fking paid for?

I'm just glad I always used false information and bought PSN cards instead of using my CC info and real information, all I have to worry about is my password being stolen, and as long as I change it as soon as PSN comes back up (if this ever happens) I'll be fine.

SOE is not the Playstation Network (PSN) people SOE is a branch of Sony that handles pay to play games. They have nothing to do with the problem that occurred or the loss of your data, their servers were not compromised,They are telling their paying customers that they will be giving them something to repay them for their lost time in game. If you do not own DCUO or Free Realms then this article had nothing to do with your PS3 experience. The double money thing is for PC gamers and is a thing that is done often with these types of games.

man, why on Earth wouldn't they do something for EVERYONE? Nobody plays those games. How about give us all one free download from Live. I'm certain I will be throwing my PS3 off the bridge near my house onto the highway.

Personally, I think the down time was a good thing. It put everything into perspective. I was hardly bothered by it because I perfer to sit down with my friends and play together. Split-screen is sadly lacking in games today. Plus, everyone who is complaining about not being able to do Portal 2 co-op on PS3, There is split-screen and it is much easier to simply poke your pal's arm and say "hey put one there" than sit and ping a location for half an hour.

Still love Sony no matter what anyone says. I find it strange everyone takes out their frustrations on Sony only and not the actual hackers responsible. The have released news from the major credit card companies that no PSN related fraud has occurred as of now. Sony also released that the credit card information on the individual accounts were encrypted and have very slim chances of actually being accessed. As for the other information on the account... who DOESN'T have that information? Much of that information is given out to everything.

Why should you ask for anything? Ok, so sony had an F-up on their online servers, and someone got a hold of some personal info, and maybe a few credit cards. But why ask for something in return? Its a free service, that you should enjoy! It's down, so its not the end of the world! Multiple reasons:

    1. You know just as well as I do, once them servers go back up, every damn 12 year old is going to be screaming on how much they want to kick sony in the ass

    2. Along with them 12 year old's every damn person with little to no patients will bitch and moan...

    3. 2 weeks... really, 2 weeks and the worlds about to end? heard of friends? Family? Humans? Go meet some maybe?

Imma a hardcore gamer, I'll agree, I miss beating the piss out of people who think they have skill. I miss going online and hanging out with my friends from across the country... I miss all of it... But yet I'm not the one having a damn panic attack... Relax, they are trying, and they will get it back up in no time.

So don't ask for compensation for free services... Its pathetic!

@DPsx7 and dizpenzerdown24- A one time yearly fee of 60 bucks for full membership to a secure well put together network. Which includes full access to actual apps made exclusively for the Xbox and not just some okie-doke slapped on web browser with the PSN. Also access to free demos, betas, and an Arcade download library including classic games, original titles, independent titles, current 360 games and classic Xbox originals that is twice the size of the PSN. Let's not forget full access to Netflix, Zune music and movies, Video chat through Kinect, Twitter, facebook, ESPN, and now Hulu Plus beginning tomorrow which by the way is free for the first week for all Live members, even silver accounts which are free. So you're right, Microsoft is turning their customers over and shaking them for every little penny they have, since that one time charge of 60 bucks was originally supposed to be for most people's down payment towards their dream home.

Just admit it, Sony screwed their customers with their lack of security on their network. Even after a video popped up on youtube showing people how easy it is to hack a PS3 they still chose to do nothing to beef up their security, and protect the people that made their console so successful. Xbox gamers aren't cheering, their laughing at the amount of PSN customers who even after something of this magnitude happens, rather then expressing some sort of anger and disbelief over what's going, and demanding some answers and reimbursement. You guys choose to defend Sony so you can still seem loyal to a company who obvioulsy could care less about their consumers.

When the RROD was the big story of gaming websites and blogs. PS3 gamers had a feild day with it, even now that's the only argument that can be said about any failure on behalf of Xbox. But when that happened Xbox owners was not happy about it and made that very clear, which made Microsoft pony up the money to fix each and every one with that issue for free. If customers acted like you guys are over this, Microsoft would probably shaft us like Sony did you guys by offering double MS points towards games that the majority of the Live community don't even own. which is exactly what Sony is doing here, but you guys will just take it because Sony gave you God of War I, II, and III so you owe it to them.

Hold up, My info might not be safe and your offering me compensation for games that i don't own? 70 million users and your offering up compensation for maybe a total of 10-15 million PSN users? that's not cool.....give three months of plus to everyone and/or a copy of an indie game or ps1 and/or 2 classic.
